The anticipation of festive lights in Kiel city center is increasing! On November 2nd, 2025, the new winter lighting on Holstenfleet in Kiel will be ceremoniously inaugurated. This will not only emphasize the historic water connection between Kleiner Kiel and the boat harbor, but also make the city center appear more lively. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. with a welcome, before a guided tour of the installation designed with light and maritime elements begins at 6:00 p.m. This special occasion is framed by the fleet, an impressive collection of five sailing boats, which are specially staged in honor of Kiel's sea of lights.
The city of Kiel cordially invites media representatives to take part in this festive event. Discussions this evening include Uwe Wanger, the managing director of Kiel-Marketing, and Renate Treutel, the mayor of the state capital Kiel. Johannes Hesse, head of the city and city management division, and Janine Streu, head of center development, will also be present to explain the new lighting elements and their effect on the city.
A look at the preparations
The lighting will be in operation from the end of November 2025 and is part of a larger initiative to revitalize Kiel's city center. This measure is not only intended to provide moments of amazement, but also to promote social gatherings when snacks and drinks are offered after the welcome.
