Little researchers conquer Osterrönfeld: a tour of discovery in the agricultural sector!

On a cool Monday morning, the little explorers stand in front of the HAW Kiel youth campus, full of anticipation for an exciting day. A group of children, all of whom are sons and daughters of students and employees of the university, have gathered and are waiting for the large taxis that are waiting. Your goal? The agricultural economics department in Osterrönfeld, where an exciting program awaits you. Loud University of Applied Sciences Kiel Children can immerse themselves directly in the world of agriculture.

The program includes, among other things, digging in the field and forest soil with Prof. Dr. Conrad Wiermann as well as milking a dummy cow and interesting conversations about animals with Prof. Dr. Katrin Mahlkow-Nerge. The little researchers are visibly enthusiastic about the diverse activities that make the day so lively and varied.

A day full of activities

The organization of the excursion lies in the skillful hands of Iris Brill and Meike Uhde from the library, who warmly welcomed the group. This initiative was part of the new holiday program, which is intended to not only offer children holiday fun, but also give them the opportunity to get to know their parents' place of work and study better. The feedback was consistently positive, so the program will undoubtedly be very well received.

But that wasn't all! The children can also take part in the play-along theater, play drums together or take part in a bilingual Halloween spooky castle party, which was organized by Judith Bräunig. A highlight was the visit to the Media Dome, where a film was shown and the excitement on the roller coaster through the film room was palpable. And at the Agricultural Economics Department, the children were even able to marvel at a cow skeleton decorated for Christmas.

Something for everyone

Fenja Rathjen, one of the supervisors, emphasizes the pleasant atmosphere and the varied course of the program. In addition to the planned activities, the children also have time for free play, snacks and the opportunity to address their concerns. The holiday program is aimed at children aged six to twelve and takes place twice a year.

The concept has proven itself: it promotes research, discovery and getting to know science and agriculture, and the fun is by no means neglected. Organizer Annemarie Müller thinks that this time together is a valuable experience and would like to thank everyone who contributed to it. Ideas for the next edition of the children's holiday program are already being collected because there is clearly something on the horizon. Children's curiosity should always be encouraged!
