Malizia fights in Ocean Race Europe: Boris Herrmann doesn't give up!
The Ocean Race Europe 2025, led by Boris Herrmann and his team Malizia, ensures exciting moments on the water. With five stages ending in Montenegro, the race is in full swing. On August 30, 2025, the fourth stage from Nice to Genoa started at 5 p.m. and the anticipation was palpable. Despite the challenges the race presents, the team remains motivated.
In the current interim ranking, which was drawn up after three stages, Team Biotherm leads the list with 34 points, followed by Holcim – PRB and Paprec Arkéa, both of which have 23 points. Team Malizia is currently in fourth place with 16 points, just behind Paprec Arkéa, while Allagrande Mapei Racing is behind with 12 and Be Water Positive with 10 points. Team AMAALA is at the bottom with 6 points, reports NDR.
Race course and challenges
The third leg from Cartagena to Nice was an intense 650 nautical mile challenge that began on August 26, 2025. Here Biotherm was again able to secure the maximum points, while Malizia finished the stage with a fifth place. Despite the placement, Boris Herrmann expressed satisfaction because all seven boats finished well. Interestingly, during the third leg, Malizia chose a rather risky, long course to sea, which didn't quite pay off as they didn't receive any bonus points.
The start of the third stage was not without complications: a collision between Holcim – PRB and Allagrande Mapei Racing caused a stir and resulted in a jury decision. The weather conditions also place high demands on the teams, which have a significant influence on the racing. The fleet also sailed through an area where orcas have been spotted, adding to the thrill.
The ongoing developments
The second stage was also won by Biotherm, followed by Holcim – PRB and Paprec Arkéa. Team Malizia also finished this stage with a fifth place. The competitors show a strong team game and are without exception well prepared for what is to come. Herrmann returned after a break in the second stage and expects big surprises in the fourth stage.
The Ocean Race is considered one of the toughest challenges in sailing and this special regatta, which has been held since 1973, remains an absolute highlight for sailing enthusiasts and athletes themselves. With a total distance of up to 45,000 nautical miles, the conditions are extreme and the excitement is great.
Will Team Malizia be able to catch up in the fourth stage? Given the strengths and challenges in the previous sections, it remains exciting to see what Boris Herrmann and his crew will achieve next.
The next partial victory is expected on August 30, 2025, after the fourth stage from Nice to Genoa. Here’s to successful sailing!
