Museum Night 2025: Art and culture in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein!

On Saturday, August 30, 2025, it will be that time again: The Museum Night in Lübeck opens its doors and invites 8,000 people to discover the fascinating world of culture and art. Already on Friday, August 29th, many visitors in Kiel created a great atmosphere in excellent summer weather. This year, 30 museums and cultural institutions opened their doors there from 7 p.m. to midnight. NDR reports that the Kunsthalle in Kiel was the most popular place to go, despite the ongoing renovation work, followed by the University of Applied Sciences campus with the innovative Bunker D exhibition.

The Museum Night in Lübeck is now the 23rd edition of the event and can look back on a long tradition. This year, 51 museums, galleries and churches will be open from 6 p.m. to midnight, with an additional offering in Travemünde starting at 3 p.m. On average, around 6,000 guests came in previous years, and a rush is expected this year too. Project manager Pia Behnke is also pleased about the high number of visitors in Kiel, where the event was better received than ever.

Diverse program and culinary offerings

The diverse program in Kiel includes guided tours, concerts, readings and creative workshops that round off the offering. If you haven't had enough, you can visit the “PlatzKultur” event on Holstenplatz, which offers interesting lectures and discussions on social topics. The exact program is available on the Museum Night website and offers something for every taste. To be fair, the entry price is 12 euros for adults and 6 euros concessions, and the tickets allow free use of public transport to make travel easier. Additional buses and ships are also available to take those interested in culture to the various event locations, as Museumsnacht Kiel informs.

In Lübeck, not only culture but also cuisine are very important. At Holstentor there will be pop-up bars with refreshing drinks and regional delicacies. Whether fish and vegetarian rolls or the popular hot dogs – visitors can choose between numerous delicacies here. Various providers serve sophisticated snacks; including the “Gourmet Kontor” with delicious bites or the “Museum Behnhaus Drägerhaus”, which offers delicious rolls. Delicious food and drinks can also be tasted in the Katharinenkirche and in the art café in the Museumsquartier St. Annen to complete the experience, as Lübeck Museums reports.

A highlight in the region

The mix of culture, art and cuisine makes the Museum Nights in Kiel and Lübeck an unforgettable event that is very popular in the region. It is not only an opportunity to experience the cultural wealth of Schleswig-Holstein, but also to discover new perspectives and interesting conversations. The shuttle service between Lübeck, Herrenwyk and Travemünde ensures that all guests can reach the various event locations comfortably and stress-free. The Flensburg Culture Night will also follow on September 13, 2025, which will continue the cultural dance in the region.
