Kiel Week 2025: A festival of music, sailing and spectacular fireworks!

The anticipation for one of the biggest events in northern Germany is increasing: Kiel Week 2025, a true spectacle for young and old, will take place from June 21st to 29th on the picturesque Kiel Fjord. Many visitors, probably around three million, will populate the city during this time and look forward to a colorful program that will provide varied entertainment at every corner. As NDR reports, the event is traditionally opened by Prime Minister Daniel Günther with the sound of the ship's bell on the town hall square.

On the first day, among other things, the popular Open Ship Days are on the agenda, during which numerous naval ships can be viewed. In addition, the many concerts that make the musical heart beat through are already a highlight for many. If you like rock, you can look forward to the performances of Afterimage and Aura Dione on Tuesday, June 24th. And on tribute day, June 26th, there will be a touch of nostalgia with Adventureland, which will present songs by PUR, as well as soul legend Aretha Franklin, interpreted by “Aretha, the Queen of Soul”. Refreshingly, this musical experience takes place on the popular town hall stage.

Cultural diversity and culinary delights

But that's not enough! Kiel Week offers more than just music – culinary delights and workshops are also included. The Muddi Market focuses on sustainability and pop culture, while the Schilksee Olympic Center acts as the sporting center of the Kiel Week, where numerous exciting regattas take place. The regattas are an integral part and make the hearts of sailing enthusiasts beat faster. Over 1,000 sailors take part in races that are part of the World Cup in Olympic sailing.

The Krusenkoppel open-air stage impresses with a colorful range of artists. Eko Fresh, Annett Louisan and Tocotronic are also on stage here. During the day there are family offers at the Krusenkoppel and the Geomar meadow, while in Kiel-Hörn there is a fairground with rides waiting for visitors. The Kiellinie is lined with stalls and stages that reflect party life and bring all generations together.

A spectacle at night

The evening highlights should not be missed! Several nights full of magical moments are on the horizon: the Night Glow at Balloon Sail reveals the glowing hot air balloons on several evenings, and at the end of the week visitors can expect magnificent fireworks displays that light up the night sky. On Saturday, June 28th, the windjammer parade with the participation of the impressive “Gorch Fock” will attract those who like to take snapshots.

Kiel Week is not just a celebration of sailing, but a festival for the entire city and beyond. Musical performances by over 100 artists, including Max Giesinger, Michael Schulte and DJ Lari Luke, and the variety of workshops and attractions ensure that this event is enjoyed to the fullest by all age groups. The conclusion of the Kiel Week on June 29th, crowned by a magnificent fireworks display, a drone and laser show, promises a spectacular conclusion and will be accompanied by music under the motto “Home under the stars,” says Merian.
