In Dithmarschen, the largest closed cabbage growing area in Europe, the harvest season is celebrated in style! The Dithmarscher Kohltage will take place for the 39th time from September 16th to 21st, 2025. The cities of Brunsbüttel, Büsum, Heide, Lunden, Marne, Meldorf and Wesselburen are transformed into a festival of cabbage diversity and tradition. Around 90 million heads of cabbage are harvested in this region every year, and that's worth celebrating! NDR reports that the opening of the traditional cabbage cutting was initially planned for September 16th, but has now been postponed to September 17th, 2025.
Brunsbüttel will be busy on September 17th: the traditional cabbage cutting will take place in the Elbeforum from 10 a.m. Agriculture Minister Werner Schwarz, district president Ute Borwieck-Dethlefs and district administrator Torben Schütt will be present at the cutting ceremony. A colorful stage program with live podcast recordings from the coastal frolleins as well as live vegan cooking with “Rosa cooks green” ensures the best entertainment. At a joint event with a farmers' market, visitors can try delicious cabbage-related dishes and marvel at handmade crafts. Really Dithmarschen highlights that the motto of the program is “tradition meets modernity”, which is also reflected in various activities.
A celebration for the whole family

On September 17th, guests are invited to attend the Kohlanschnittsfest from 10 a.m., which also features a farmers' market.
