a long tradition of fencing

fencing, one of the oldest sports in mankind, has an exciting story. Originally practiced as an armed struggle with long blades and hand protection, it changed over the centuries. With the advent of the shooting powder, the armored knight equipment lost importance, and the sword fight developed into modern fencing. The German Fechter Association, which was founded in 1911, has significantly shaped the development of sport in Germany. Fencing has been an integral part of this event since the Olympic Games in 1896, and since 1924 women have also been active in fencing.

Fencing played a special role in the post -war period. After the Second World War, the sport was briefly prohibited by the victorious powers. However, this ban was lifted again after four years and helped to revitalize the sport in Germany. Reunification also represented a challenge that finally led to the fusion of the two fencing associations in East and West Germany in 1990.

The Hanseatic Fechtclub Lübeck e.V. not only shows how multifaceted this sport is, but also how important community and tradition are in the fencing scene. Be there when the fencing community of Lübeck dares to take the next steps into a new sporting era!
