Handball Days Lübeck: 7,500 participants and happy faces!
A major sporting event is currently causing excitement in Lübeck. The Handball Days offer players the opportunity to demonstrate their skills. Organized by the MTV Lübeck support association, over 7,500 participants from eight nations take part, with 4,500 guests staying in the Hanseatic city. This not only creates a colorful mix of different cultures, but also brings a lot of joy and entertainment.
What place could be better suited for such a festival than the fascinating Hanseatic city of Lübeck? Here the participants stay overnight in 26 schools and halls, while MTV Lübeck has organized a total of 15 tons of food to provide the guests with adequate supplies. In an interview with Lübeck news Markus Sievers, the chairman of the support association, says he is pleased with how the tournament has gone so far. “The weather is playing along, faces are beaming with joy and the games are just great,” said Sievers.
An international handball festival
What could be better than living out your passion for handball together? It's not just the active players who get their money's worth at the Handball Days. A Mini Cup for young handball talents born in 2017 or later will also take place this year. Here the little ones can enjoy their first handball experiences in a playful setting. A comprehensive support program, ranging from an opening ceremony to discos and raffles for high-quality prizes, accompanies the events.
The main venues are the Hansehalle and the Buniamshof Athletics Station with 12 courts in the heart of Lübeck. In this way, the city becomes the scene of a real handball festival that attracts both players and spectators.
A look into the future
With an estimated budget of over 400,000 euros, the event is financed through registration fees, sponsors, foundations and merchandising. Over 1,000 volunteers are largely responsible for the smooth running of the Handball Days. Sievers emphasizes that 100 percent of any proceeds that remain will flow into the MTV handball department. With a view to the anniversary tournament in 2026, there are already ambitious plans: “We want to break the 500 team mark and are planning an expansion to the Falkenwiese with special acts for our anniversary,” he reveals.
A certain rethink is also necessary for the participants when it comes to local public transport, as they will be using it for the first time during the Handball Days. Nevertheless, Sievers is enthusiastic about the peaceful coming together of so many cultures in handball. Another big step in the provision of sports opportunities is the international perspective: sports projects abroad, such as those on Volunteer World are offered not only promote social skills, but also introduce children to the joy of sport.
Overall, it shows that the Handball Days are not only a sporting highlight, but also a successful platform for encounters, culture and the promotion of young talent. The commitment of everyone involved is noticeable and creates a positive atmosphere that will continue to resonate in Lübeck for a long time.
