VfB Lübeck's home game is canceled due to the frozen pitch!
In Lübeck, the fans of VfB Lübeck cannot celebrate together with their team today. The regional league game against VfB Oldenburg scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. has been canceled. The reason for this is the persistent sub-zero temperatures, which have made the pitch in the Lohmühle stadium unplayable. According to VfB Lübeck, areas of ice have formed in the shadow of the Alten Holze, making the ground frosty and dangerous.
The field committee has decided that the risk of injury to the players is too high to ensure a safe game. The weather forecasts are also not very helpful: further freezing temperatures are forecast for the coming night, and there is no quick improvement in the weather in sight. Lübeck thus joins the long list of football games that had to be canceled due to weather conditions.
A look at the situation in the region
A total of twelve games have now been canceled in the regional leagues. As Kicker reports, the weather has brought football to a standstill in large parts of Germany. The weather conditions were particularly problematic in the north on Friday, when five games were canceled there. There was hardly any all-clear in the south either - some games there were also canceled.

The question remains whether these games can still be rescheduled this year. Although the general calendar provides for catch-up dates before Christmas, it remains uncertain how the weather will develop.
Amateur football in danger
Things aren't looking any better in amateur football either. According to Zeit, all games in Berlin amateur football up to and including Sunday have been canceled due to frost and heavy snowfall. Numerous sports facilities are already closed due to the weather. Unless there are short-term changes, the pitches will remain unplayable.
The situation is an enormous challenge for players, fans and clubs. Many are hoping for changes in the weather soon so that football can resume immediately. In Lübeck, however, fans can breathe a sigh of relief: tickets that have already been purchased remain valid for the catch-up date that has not yet been set. If you can't make the rescheduled date, you have the option of returning your tickets.
