Julian Albrecht celebrates comeback: VfB Lübeck star back on the pitch!

After going through a painful time, 23-year-old Julian Albrecht is making his comeback to the football fields. The VfB Lübeck central midfielder has overcome the foot injury he suffered in the game against Kickers Emden at the end of April 2025. An X-ray confirmed a stress fracture that put him out of action for 71 days, six of which he spent wearing a special shoe. Albrecht has now returned with a goal at the blitz tournament in Hamburg and is confident that he will soon regain his top form.

In his career so far, Albrecht has already played 118 regional league games. This experience makes him an important player in the team, especially since he is one of only six players from last season. “I see myself in a responsible role,” says the midfielder optimistically about Lübeck’s small squad. He firmly believes that the new players will strengthen the team.

Injury history and comeback

Albrecht's past is burdened with injuries. In addition to the current stress fracture, which put him out of action for 61 days (April 30 to June 29, 2025) and cost him four games, he had already suffered a torn cruciate ligament last year, from which he has returned successfully. In the 2021/22 season he suffered from a ligament injury that sidelined him for 14 days. This illustrates the challenges that competitive athletes often have to overcome in football, as the German Society for Sports Medicine emphasizes: “Football is a sport prone to injuries, especially at a professional level,” says the sports medicine journal.

What are the most common injuries in football? Many players experience muscle damage, such as torn muscle fibers, which often result from strain at high speeds or abrupt movements. Additionally, contact injuries occur more often in competition, while non-contact injuries usually occur in training. According to the Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery, mild injuries account for 50% of injuries, while severe injuries that are out of action for more than 30 days account for only 10-16%.

Private and view

Albrecht recently made a name for himself with personal news: he got engaged to his girlfriend Lara while on vacation in Cyprus. He feels comfortable in Lübeck and is optimistic that the new season with VfB Lübeck will be more successful. “I'm aiming for a season with more consistency and fewer injuries,” says the ambitious player, looking to the future. His commitment and positive attitude could be crucial for Lübeck to realize the team's full potential.
