Lübeck celebrates with record attendance: art, triathlon and important transport projects!
Last weekend Lübeck was transformed into a true festival of the senses and sport. As part of a large festival weekend, several events took place that thrilled both locals and visitors. The highlights included the Fehmarnbeltdays, the Super Arts Festival and the eagerly awaited 7 Towers Triathlon. Lübecker Nachrichten reports that this triathlon brought together not only ambitious athletes, but also amateur athletes and prominent faces such as Tagesschau anchor Thorsten Schröder and ex-professional Michael Raelert.
Since its inception, the 7 Towers Triathlon has developed into one of the largest events in the region. In addition to sporting ambition, triathlon also focuses on a good cause: the donations collected benefit sick people. Yesterday was also a good opportunity for the athletes to concentrate on their own achievements and enjoy being together. After the great success this year, the next 7 Towers Triathlon is already planned for June 14, 2026, with the prospect of possibly a two-day event.
Art and commitment combined
Of course, art was also a big topic in Lübeck. This year, Diakonie Nord Nord Ost's super art festival thrilled visitors with a record number of 43,000 guests. It is a celebration of creativity that captures the soul of the city. Particularly pleasing: The festival will take place again in 2025 from June 12th to 14th and once again promises an unforgettable experience.
Another interesting project of future-oriented initiatives comes from Stefan Sørensen, who is planning a barrier-free wheelchair ramp in Café Nørd made of 150,000 Lego bricks. This innovative idea aims to significantly improve accessibility for people with mobility limitations. Sørensen is not only collecting Lego bricks, but also donations, with the ambitious goal of completing the ramp by the summer holidays.
Transport connections and health services
An urgent appeal was made by the Fehmarnbelt Committee regarding transport connections. An hourly train connection between Lübeck and Nykøbing/Falster is required without surcharges for the tunnel crossing. The mayors along the rail route emphasize the need for reliable local transport plans before the opening of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel.
On the health side, the Lübeck health department has to cope with another change in personnel. Prof. Alexander Mischnik is leaving the authority after five years to move to the research institute in Borstel. During his time in office, he faced the coronavirus pandemic and continues to call for urgent investment in the public health service.
Triathlon and digitalization
And there is also news for the athletes in Lübeck in the area of digitalization. The DTU has adjusted the starting pass conditions and now enables a new semi-digital application process that brings with it some simplifications. It is important that changing clubs during the year is no longer possible and a processing fee for missing starting passes has been removed. Information about this can be found in the revised Startpass Conditions. Those responsible have also provided an explanatory video for the application to make it easier for athletes to take the step into the digital future.
The people of Lübeck are kept busy: whether it's sports, cultural events or important infrastructure projects, the city remains a lively place that is constantly on the move.
