Lübeck, Deutschland - On July 5, 2025, there should have been a musical highlight again in Schleswig-Holstein: The Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF) starts its 40 round and promises a bulging program with over 200 concerts until the end of August. Director Christian Kuhnt emphasizes the special diversity of the music, which from the music metropolis Fazıl Say as a portrait artist.

Christoph Eschenbach, Ray Chen and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra solemnly open the festival, while the congenial pianist Say describes how much the Turkish folklore is characterized by its rhythm and versatility. The program is enriched by other musical sizes, such as the internationally recognized soloists Lang Lang, Anne-Sophie Mother, Midori and many more.

A highlight of this year's edition is the interactive project with Omer Meir Wellber, which actively includes the audience. This enables the visitor to enjoy a completely new form of music experience by wearing masks and moving the orchestra in the room. The band Light in Babylon will cause a lot of sensation with their program "Schalom, Salam, Bariş", as it appears three times.

Special attention is also paid to the new venues: These include the shipyard in Geesthacht and the theater in the Kurhaus in Bad Bramstedt. The festival takes place in total at 71 venues, including in cities such as Kiel and Lübeck.

This year's festival budget amounts to around 14.5 million euros, with over 1 million euros being funded by the state of Schleswig-Holstein. A flourishing festival of this size is a pleasure for all curious people who want to enjoy music from classic to modern genres. The pieces of Fazıl Say, Schumann, Shostakovich and Bruckner are a must for lovers of classical music.

As part of the program, the smaller ones also receive a platform: Various children's festivals and the "Singstars!" access to music is made possible.

In addition, visitors can expect: a large contingent on the orchestra and ensembles, including the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra and the West Eastern Divan Orchestra, led by international conductors such as Daniel Barenboim. The SHMF remains an indispensable part of the north German cultural scene and a meeting point for music fans from all over the world.
