Stockelsdorf Christmas tree: A radiant celebration of tradition!
Last weekend the time had finally come: the impressive Christmas tree at the entrance to Stockelsdorf was ceremoniously put up. With its height of around 15 meters and a weight of 2.5 tonnes, the festively decorated fir tree attracts everyone's attention and brings Christmas magic to the community. Residents can look forward to an atmospheric Advent season, which is further enhanced by the enchanting lighting in the town center. As Mayor Julia Samtleben emphasizes, this is energy-efficiently equipped with LED lamps and creates a festive atmosphere.
Organizing the transport and installation was a joint effort. The company Ulferts & Wittrock from Lübeck provided the necessary crane, while the Mori volunteer fire department took on important safety measures. These ensured that traffic flow was regulated during the work on November 25th. A short-term stopping ban was also put in place to make the transport run smoothly, as reported on the HL LIVE website.
A gift with tradition
The Christmas tree in Stockelsdorf is not only a pretty sight, but also a sign of community. It was donated by the Pienau family from Buchenweg, which underlines the local connection. Mayor Samtleben thanked the family and everyone involved, hanging the first ball on the tree and officially opening the Christmas season.
The tradition of the decorated Christmas tree has its roots in the 15th century and has developed over the centuries into an important symbol of Christmas. Martin Luther and his fellow Reformers explained it as a sign for the Protestants. Interestingly, the origins of this tradition are mentioned not only in the Bible, but also in the Koran, which sheds light on the deep, interwoven cultural background, according to NDR.
Lighting and sustainability
The Christmas lights in the town center are on, of course taking the environment into account. With an electricity consumption of just 0.36 kW per hour, the entire lighting is operated for up to 16 hours a day for 45 days. The maximum total electricity consumption will not exceed 454 kW, showing ILO significant sustainability measures.
In many communities, traditional Christmas tree preparation means that trees often come from the region. In Stockelsdorf, care was taken to ensure that the fir tree was removed after the Christmas season without having to cut down a new tree, thus providing an ecologically sustainable solution. The decorated fir tree will also have fallen again in Stockelsdorf, which is another beautiful custom for many of us.
As we look forward to the festive season, we can keep an eye on the historical evolution of the Christmas tree. From its pagan origins to what we know today, it reflects the blended traditions of different faiths and cultural backgrounds. It is worth making room for this important tradition in our everyday lives during Advent - not only as decoration, but also as a symbol of our community.
Less than a week after putting up the Christmas tree, we wish everyone in Stockelsdorf a contemplative and happy Advent season in the glow of lights!
