Storm warning: Gusts of up to 80 km/h for Lübeck and Fehmarn until the evening!

Autumn shows its stormy side throughout northern Germany. As the Lübeck news Report, the German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a warning of wind and gusts of wind for the Lübeck region and the neighboring districts of Segeberg, Stormarn, Duchy of Lauenburg and Ostholstein. This applies today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., while strong gusts can be expected on the island of Fehmarn until 8 p.m.

The forecast wind speeds can reach up to 80 km/h in some cases. Points of freedom such as gardens and parks, where falling branches and flying objects can pose danger, are particularly at risk. The DWD recommends storing garden furniture and covers safely to avoid damage.

DWD warning levels

The weather not only brings wind, but also different warning levels. The DWD explains these in a clear structure. The warnings range from level 1, for unusual weather developments, where only behavior adjustment is recommended, to level 4, which describes extremely dangerous weather conditions and prohibits staying outdoors.

  • Warnstufe 1: Ungewöhnliche Wetterentwicklung; Anpassung des Verhaltens empfohlen.
  • Warnstufe 2: Gefährliche Wetterentwicklung; örtliche Schäden möglich; Vorsicht geboten.
  • Warnstufe 3: Sehr gefährliche Wetterentwicklung; Aufenthalt im Freien vermeiden.
  • Warnstufe 4: Extrem gefährliche Wetterentwicklung; verbreitete Schäden möglich; Aufenthalt im Freien vermeiden.

These warning levels are not only valid for wind, but also for thunderstorms. Lightning strikes can have serious consequences, even if the probability of being hit is low: every year in Germany there are around 130 people injured by lightning strikes, and in severe cases even fatalities. The DWD therefore recommends exercising particular caution during thunderstorms. The collision of air masses of different temperatures is often the trigger for thunderstorms, which occur around 2,000 times an hour worldwide.

Internet speed by storm

Over 11 million tests are conducted daily to provide visibility into the network situation. Although the storms may affect some connections, the application informs users about the current speed of their Internet connection. In Germany, where fast network connections are becoming increasingly important, this source of information is of great importance.

It remains to be seen how the storm will progress and what impact it will have on the region. The residents of Lübeck, Segeberg and the surrounding area are well advised to keep an eye on the current warnings and take appropriate precautionary measures. Stay safe and use the time to take a look at the digital space more often - because as the saying goes: When there is a storm, home becomes the best place!
