Travemünde Week 2025: Sailing festival with highlights and sustainability campaigns!

It starts in a few days! The “Travemünde Week” is just around the corner and is waiting to celebrate its 136th edition from July 18th to 27th, 2025. Lübeck's mayor Jan Lindenau will ring in the opening ceremony on July 18th at 6:00 p.m., followed by Prime Minister Daniel Günther, who will give the starting signal for the first race of the long-distance regatta Rund Fehmarn. Almost 800 sailors and hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected this year. A real festival for young and old!

The Travemünde Week offers an extremely exciting program. Three international championships and five German title fights are on the list. One of the highlights is the Volksbank Rotspon Cup, where the mayor of Lübeck was presented by Dr. Ulf Kampf is challenged. In addition, a SUP race will be held in Lübeck for the first time, which will certainly generate additional enthusiasm among water and sports enthusiasts. The regatta program runs from July 18th to 26th with various championships such as the World Cup and European Championship Topcat K1, attracting the best sailors.

Artistic supporting program

But Travemünde Week goes beyond sailing. Local artists will present maritime art in the glass cruise terminal at Ostpreußenkai. This will revolve around topics such as the sea, ships, beaches, wind and sailing. Daily, free workshops and numerous program highlights offer a variety of activities for all age groups. Participating artists such as Inga Prasse, Mara Heidi Sieber and many others from the region will exhibit their works. The cooperation with the Drei-König gallery from Frankfurt, which brings selected works of art by Salvador Dalí to Travemünde, is particularly exciting.

Sustainability in focus

In times of climate change and environmental protection, the topic of sustainability is also very important. The Travemünde Week focuses more on sustainable actions. An extensive sustainability program is offered, which includes training for children and traveling exhibitions. The collaboration with 36 supporters, including the main sponsors boot and König Pilsener, helps to realize these initiatives. The regatta and festival offerings had to be adjusted due to reduced revenue, but the commitment to an environmentally friendly event remains undiminished.

Against the background of the current discussions about sustainability in sailing, it is clear that organizers and participants take equal responsibility. As Boris Herrmann, renowned sailor and sustainability activist, emphasizes, sailing is closely linked to nature and offers the opportunity to draw attention to environmentally friendly practices. SES partners can play a transformative role here to minimize the environmental footprint of sport.

If all goes according to plan, visitors can expect an evening laser show and a closing fireworks display on July 27, but final approvals for this are still pending. It remains to be seen whether the weather and the authorities will show mercy. The fact is, Travemünde Week is coming up and promises to be a real highlight in summer 2025! Be there!
