Routines in the fight against addiction: AA meeting in Neumünster!

The next AA radio meeting at Freie Radio Neumünster will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. The 54th program of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) will be recorded under the motto “Routines, negative and positive routines”. The importance of routine actions in the lives of the participants is discussed. The discussion will focus on dealing with negative routines during active addiction and highlight ways to incorporate positive routines into everyday life after getting sober. Participants share their own personal experiences to encourage and inspire others looking for support.

The AA Radio meeting is broadcast for half an hour on the fourth Thursday of each month. The aim of these initiatives is to provide information about alcoholism and to give those affected valuable experience. “Seeking help is the first step to change,” is a popular saying among members. The group thus offers a valuable contact point for both those affected and their relatives.

Confidentiality is always guaranteed for all inquiries. Those seeking help can also visit the official AA website, where nationwide meetings are also listed: www.anonyme-lokaliker.de. Podcasts with previous programs can also be found here - a real feast for the ears for everyone who is interested in the topics.

The power of self-help

Alcoholics Anonymous is not just a local initiative, but a global self-help movement that is active in 180 countries and runs over 118,000 groups. AA's approach is religiously motivated Twelve-step program, which was developed by a doctor and an alcoholic patient since its founding in 1935 in Akron, Ohio. This methodology has proven to be particularly effective: A recent meta-analysis in the Cochrane Library shows that AA is more effective in the treatment of alcohol addiction than many professional therapies that are commonly used after medical detoxification the Ärzteblatt reports here.

AA not only provides a platform for mutual support, but also promotes long-term community building. Participants report a remarkable abstinence rate: After one year, 42% of AA participants were abstinent, compared to 35% of psychotherapy participants. This shows that the motivation to regularly attend meetings has a decisive influence on success. The AA does not charge any fees and is financed through membership fees, which makes the organization particularly cost-efficient.
