On July 3, 2025, FC St. Pauli began preparations for the new 2025/2026 Bundesliga season. Coach Alexander Blessin gave the starting signal on Thursday and welcomed some new additions to the team. But there is still plenty of work to be done, especially in the offensive and in the left-back position. The first Bundesliga game against Borussia Dortmund is scheduled to take place in less than two months, on August 22nd or 23rd.
Another highlight will be the city derby against HSV in the Volksparkstadion a week later. Before that, the Kiez-Kickers have to compete with Eintracht Norderstedt in the first round of the DFB Cup after an exchange of home rights came about. To kick off the test match series, the team will go to Aurich on Sunday, where they will face GW Firrel at 4 p.m.
The new additions and personnel details
Along with the start of training, sports director Andreas Bornemann now has to actively strengthen the team. After the loss of important key players such as Morgan Guilavogui, Elias Saad, Philipp Treu, Noah Weißhaupt and Siebe van der Heyden, the club has already had to cope with a number of departures. While Ricky-Jade Jones was brought in from Peterborough United as a striker, he is not seen as the solution to their attacking problems.
A bright spot could be the new player Mathias Pereira Lage on the left wing, who should bring a breath of fresh air to the offensive.
