FC St. Pauli starts their Bundesliga preparations full of hope!
On July 3, 2025, FC St. Pauli began preparations for the new 2025/2026 Bundesliga season. Coach Alexander Blessin gave the starting signal on Thursday and welcomed some new additions to the team. But there is still plenty of work to be done, especially in the offensive and in the left-back position. The first Bundesliga game against Borussia Dortmund is scheduled to take place in less than two months, on August 22nd or 23rd.
Another highlight will be the city derby against HSV in the Volksparkstadion a week later. Before that, the Kiez-Kickers have to compete with Eintracht Norderstedt in the first round of the DFB Cup after an exchange of home rights came about. To kick off the test match series, the team will go to Aurich on Sunday, where they will face GW Firrel at 4 p.m.
The new additions and personnel details
Along with the start of training, sports director Andreas Bornemann now has to actively strengthen the team. After the loss of important key players such as Morgan Guilavogui, Elias Saad, Philipp Treu, Noah Weißhaupt and Siebe van der Heyden, the club has already had to cope with a number of departures. While Ricky-Jade Jones was brought in from Peterborough United as a striker, he is not seen as the solution to their attacking problems.
A bright spot could be the new player Mathias Pereira Lage on the left wing, who should bring a breath of fresh air to the offensive. The 23-year-old midfielder, who comes from VV St. Truiden, could also play an important role. There is also a good chance that the club may sign further Japanese newcomers.
The current FC St. Pauli squad
FC St. Pauli's expected squad for the coming season includes 22 players whose average age is 25.6 years. The total market value of the squad is around 36.88 million euros. Here is an overview of the squad details by position:
| position | Average age | Total market value | Average market value |
|---|---|---|---|
| goalkeeper | 26.3 years | €4.35 million | €1.45 million |
| Defence | 26.1 years | €18.33 million | €1.83 million |
| midfield | 25.8 years | €9.70 million | €1.62 million |
| Storm | 24.0 years | €4.50 million | €900 thousand |
Although the offense was a weakness last season, the hope remains that the new players will provide the necessary fire. However, the financial prospects for the coming season are stable: FC St. Pauli has a transfer balance of ±0 euros, with only one transfer fee of 0 euros. Recently there was also a judicial investigation into Josef Ollig, the outcome of which is still pending.
It remains to be seen how the FC St. Pauli squad will develop and whether the new players can master the challenges. The first test matches and the subsequent training camp in Flachau, Austria, from July 18th to 27th will be decisive indicators. Until then, there's only one thing left for fans: watch what's happening in the neighborhood with excitement.
