SPD change: Ulf Kampf as the new bearer of hope for Schleswig-Holstein!

A lot is happening in Schleswig-Holstein, and the local political scenario could soon take a new turn. Serpil Midyatli, the state leader of the SPD, announced that she was stepping down from her post. This opens up an exciting opportunity for Ulf Kampf, the mayor of Kiel, which is being discussed. Loud NDR Kampf is seen as a potential successor and in this context could enter the race as the northern SPD's top candidate for the 2027 state elections. Midyatli emphasizes that there is an urgent need to join forces in order to get back into government.

Ulf Kampf, who was born in Eutin on June 16, 1972, has been mayor of Kiel since March 2014. He has demonstrated his ability to make decisions not only in his political career, which has earned him widespread recognition, but also through his academic achievements, which have even taken him to prestigious universities in Göttingen, Galway and New York. Before taking office as mayor, Kampf served, among other things, as state secretary in the Schleswig-Holstein cabinet.

Kampfer's political career

Ulf Kampf is no stranger to the political landscape of Schleswig-Holstein. He was elected mayor of Kiel with an impressive 63.1 percent of the vote and was re-elected in 2019 with 65 percent. He owes these successes primarily to his ability to find pragmatic solutions and to take citizens along with him. Since his return to Kiel in 2001, where he followed his wife Anke, he has been heavily involved in the city's political and social affairs.

Current developments and challenges

However, the region has also been struggling with challenges recently. An accident in the Pinneberg district caused a stir: there was a collision between a train and a car at an unbarred level crossing, whereby the driver ignored the red light. Fortunately, the passenger was only slightly injured, but the railway line remained closed for several hours.

Another topic that concerns many Kiel residents is the defusing of an unexploded bomb from the Second World War, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Kiel-Holtenau. Around 180 households have to leave their homes during this time as the Kiel Canal is closed to entry and exit from the lock from 10 a.m.

On the positive side, the German-Danish project “Flashlight” was launched, which aims to improve civil protection in the border region and is carried out jointly by the rescue services. This project is being funded by the EU with two million euros and shows how important cooperation across borders is.

Last but not least, a bomb threat caused nervousness at the Fraunhofer Institute in Lübeck, but the police were able to give the all-clear; No suspicious object was found and the investigation is in full swing.

What can be said about the weather in Schleswig-Holstein is that we have to expect showers today before it becomes mostly dry later. The temperatures will be between 11 and 12 degrees - that means dressing warmly is the order of the day!
