Sunny farewell to summer: changing weather brings cold and rain!
In northern Germany, the beautiful weather was enjoyed to the fullest on Saturday, one of the last summer days of 2025. Many people were drawn to the Baltic Sea, where temperatures reached almost 30 degrees. The Bay of Lübeck in Scharbeutz and the pier in Sellin were particularly popular, as they were a real magnet for visitors. Inland, the thermometer also showed pleasing values of around 28 degrees, while the cooler breeze on the coast brought some fresh air. The Borken newspaper reports that many people used the day to enjoy the last rays of sunshine of late summer.
But the joy about the high temperatures didn't last long. On Sunday night, clouds rolled in from the northwest and dropped temperatures on the coasts to around 16 degrees, which fell by two more degrees during the day. Next Monday, the astronomical start of autumn, there will be a significant change in the weather. A cold front from the west will bring cooler air and will drive away the summer weather. Loud ZDF Further drops in temperature are expected at the beginning of the week, with maximum values only being between 15 and 19 degrees - and therefore significantly cooler than in the past few days.
Cold front causes weather changes
The meteorological situation already points to the impending change. Meteorologist Robert Hausen from the German Weather Service describes the current situation as striking, as low pressure areas are settling over Germany. Frequent rain, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, is also expected at the beginning of the week. A look at the weather maps shows the effects of the cold front, which separates the warm air masses from the cooler ones, which leads to a dramatic change - the experts also know this Meteo Switzerland.
On Sunday it will remain partly clear and dry in the northeast and east as well as in eastern Bavaria. However, cloud formations may form in the rest of the republic, leading to isolated showers. While the temperatures on the Baltic Sea are rather mild, windy peaks can be expected inland. Strong gusts of wind should also not be underestimated, especially on weekends when the first autumnal storms accompany us into the next season.
So you can say: There's something going on! As the week progresses, fall will really take hold and late summer will slowly retreat. The chances of rain are increasing, especially in the Harz Mountains, where there is also a risk of local flooding. A truly turbulent weather change is upon us, which will bring the last sunny days to an abrupt end!
