Thomas Buhck New IHK President: Challenges for Lübeck's economy!
Lübeck, Deutschland - The wind blows fresh news around our ears in Lübeck! As of now, Thomas Buhck is the new president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) in Lübeck. He was elected in an election in which there was no opponent, the successor to Hagen Goldbeck, who died in April 2023. Buhck, who is also a managing partner of the Buhck Group, wants to bring a breath of fresh air to the chamber and has clear visions for the future of the economy in Schleswig-Holstein.
Buhck has a comprehensive experience, because since 1998 he has been actively involved in the General Assembly of the Chamber. In his new role, he would like to focus on various important topics:
- Transport infrastructure in Schleswig-Holstein
- Planning acceleration, especially with the Fehmarnbelt tunnel
- digitization of the economy
- Strengthening the entrepreneurship
- Combating the shortage of skilled workers
- Security of IT and energy infrastructure
Hagen Goldbeck - an era comes to an end
his predecessor, the popular Hagen Goldbeck, also did an impressive job. He was elected unanimously and received 52 out of 53 votes in his constitution. Under Goldbeck's presidency, the self -administration of the economy in the Hanseaty was decisively strengthened. The focus on small and medium -sized companies in particular was very approved. He already had a clear plan in the drawer: the collaboration in the Presidium should create crisis -proof structures and actively help shape the future of the business location. Thanks to its initiative, a new general assembly could be elected, consisting of 64 members who represent the interests of the IHK members.
shortage of skilled workers as a challenge
A central concern of both Buhck and Goldbeck is the oppressive shortage of skilled workers, which presents the companies in Lübeck with great challenges. Around two thirds of the companies fear that they will suffer economic disadvantages. According to an initiative for securing skilled workers, which was launched by business development agency, joint actions are required to position Lübeck as an attractive place of work and to attract specialists. Almost 80 percent of companies see such cooperation.
The situation is serious: Between May 1, 2022 and April 30, 2023, almost 45,000 job offers were published, with 186 positions of significant occupation problems. Technical professions, hotel and hospitality and logistics are mainly affected. Here it will be particularly important to win the trainees and specialists from abroad, especially from countries such as Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
outlook: together strong
The coming years will show how Buhck and his team master the challenges. With initiatives such as the internship “internship Hansebelt”, which facilitates the connection between company and internship seekers, it is tackled to promote youngsters and to keep in the region in the long term.
SoWe can look forward to the new impulses and ideas Thomas Buhck, at the head of the IHK, to the Lübeck economy. In any case, the commitment to the regional challenges is well received. It is to be hoped that Lübeck will continue to shine as a blooming business location in the north German landscape!
