Bremen Freimarkt 2025: Opening with fireworks and a new security concept!

A real anniversary is coming: On October 17, 2025, the Bremen Freimarkt will open its doors for the 990th time. This will be celebrated right at the start with a spectacular fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. The celebrations start on the Bürgerweide at 4 p.m. and end on November 2nd. The large fair attracts with a variety of attractions and offers for young and old.

For the next 17 days, visitors can expect regular opening hours from Sunday to Thursday from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to midnight. Special events such as the free market parade on October 25th, which starts at 10 a.m. from Pappelstrasse and arrives at the market square at 11 a.m., bring additional program items. On this day the market opens at 12 p.m. and will bring the current rides and stalls to life.

A variety of attractions for the whole family

With almost 300 showmen, the Freimarkt has an impressive selection of carousels and rides. Five large rides, including the popular “Wild Mouse”, 23 other rides, 21 bars and 15 special children’s rides are available to visitors. What's particularly pleasing is that the Bremen free ticket can be used at at least 46 of the attractions, but this could be the last year for it.

It is also important to know that price adjustments are pending. The city has increased the fees, and price increases on the open market cannot be ruled out. This will probably make some tippers suspicious, especially since illegal parkers are consistently towed away to allow emergency vehicles access.

Safety is the top priority

The safety of visitors is very important. For the first time, the open market will be monitored with cameras. A video trailer is used to provide visual situation information in the event of sudden events, while the “Freimarktswache” acts as a contact point for filing reports. The police recommend that you only take the essentials with you and keep valuables spread out on your body to avoid giving room to pickpockets who appear in groups. In threatening situations, you should scream loudly and call the police on the emergency number 110.

Another safety aspect is the prohibited items on the premises: weapons, knives, glass bottles, fireworks, dogs, bicycles, e-scooters and rocker vests are strictly prohibited here. A “child finder” campaign is offered for parents. Stickers with contact details are available at the children's rides.

A tradition that connects

The Bremen Freimarkt has a rich history. As early as 888, King Arnulf granted the Archbishop of Bremen the minting, market and customs rights for Bremen. The first set date for the market was October 16, 1035. Over the centuries, the open market has developed from a goods market into a popular entertainment venue. Many visitors come not only for the rides, but also to stroll and enjoy the unique atmosphere.

Every year the folk festival attracts more than a million visitors. With the opening of the free market, the closing times for restaurants during the festival will also be lifted, which invites social gatherings and celebrations until late. For many, a festival under the sparkling lights of the Freimarkt is an integral part of the autumn season in Bremen.

For a stress-free visit, we recommend using the parking garages near the university, as parking options directly at the Freimarkt are very limited.

The Bremen Freimarkt is more than just a fair; it is part of North German culture and tradition that connects people with one another. Let's look forward to the anniversary and the colorful, sparkling atmosphere that this event brings with it!
