The Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven suffered a bitter defeat in their first home game of the Champions Hockey League (CHL). French club Grenoble, better known as Brûleurs de Loups, won 8-5. In the home stadium, the start of the game was anything but happy: after less than ten minutes, Bremerhaven was 3-0 behind. In the 21st second, François Beauchemin scored the first goal for Grenoble, followed by further goals from Alexandre Mallet and Matias Bachelet. The Penguins quickly found themselves in an awkward position People's voice.
Despite the deficit, Bremerhaven came back into the game in the first third. Jan Urbas managed to score the first goal for the Penguins 22 seconds before the end of the first period, reducing the score to 1:3. This goal gave the fans in the hall a glimmer of hope. In the second third, however, the guests from Grenoble increased their dominance, Mallet increased the score to 5-1, followed by further goals from Beauchemin, which made the game 7-2. The Pinguins tried to turn things around and reduced the lead to 5:7 with goals from Justin Büsing, Christian Wejse and Jan Urbas Weser courier. But Valentin Grossetete had the last word, who set the final score for Grenoble at 8:5 in the 47th minute.
The Penguins had to deal with this loss and coach Alexander Sulzer expressed his dissatisfaction with the team's performance. In the CHL, the Bremerhaven team has only achieved one win from three games so far – a 3-2 after extra time against the ZSC Lions. The next game is next Sunday against the Finnish team Lukko Rauma. This season is special for the Penguins as they qualified for the CHL for the third time in a row. This was achieved by winning the championship, which is perceived as an important step in the development of Bremerhaven ice hockey. The Eisbären Berlin, another representative of the league, secured their 11th championship, while the Pinguins represented the Penny-DEL in third place Icehockey.net.
The coming challenge will not be easy for the Penguins, but fans remain hopeful that their team will soon find their way back to winning ways.
