Sail 2025: Return of the cult sailors to Bremerhaven - A festival of seafaring!

From August 13th to 17th, 2025, Bremerhaven invites you to Sail 2025, and there is no reason to miss the spectacle! After a ten-year break, the major maritime event returns and promises to delight more than 1.2 million visitors. More than 250 ships, including historic barges and modern sail training ships, will transform the port city into a maritime festival mile. Mercury reports that among the highlights of the event is the impressive Alexander von Humboldt II. This magnificent flagship leads the entry parade on the first day of the event.

The Alexander von Humboldt II, known as the “Becks Ship”, measures an impressive 65 meters and has already sailed 300,000 nautical miles since its christening. But it is not the only piece of jewelry that visitors can expect. The largest sailing training ship in Latin America, the B.A.P. Union, will be there. Measuring 115 meters long and built in Peru, it serves as a cultural ambassador for Peruvian art and gastronomy. This fastest sailing training ship in South America was launched in 2014 and is a real eye-catcher.

Tradition meets innovation

The Shabab Oman II, an 87 meter long full ship, brings Arab seafaring tradition to the German coast and promotes international encounters. Another highlight is the Gorch Fock, an 89.3 meter long sail training ship, which is returning after a controversial renovation costing 135 million euros instead of the planned 10 million euros. The Gorch Fock has a long history of training officer candidates since 1959.

The French barque Belem, which was built in 1896 and is one of the oldest active sailing ships in Europe, will also enrich the stage design. Originally used to transport cocoa and rum, the Belem was under French cultural protection and brought the Olympic flame to Marseille in 2024. Her return to Sail 2025 marks another step in the revival of maritime traditions.

Culture and music for everyone

However, Sail 2025 is not just a celebration for sailing fans. A diverse supporting program ensures that there is something for everyone. International music acts like Ronan Keating, No Angels and Johannes Oerding promise magical moments. Music from a wide variety of genres is played at seven stages along the Havenwelten, in the fishing port and in the city center.

For those who prefer a more hands-on approach: the art of sailing also plays a central role at Sail 2025. Interest in Sailrite sewing machines, which are valued by many sailing enthusiasts, will continue to increase. These machines are less available in stores and offer reliable support compared to clones and vintage models. Sailnet describes the advantages of Sailrite as sustainable and future-proof, which is of great importance when sewing sails.

Overall, Sail 2025 has a lot to offer - from impressive traditional ships and a cultural program to exciting workshops. Bremerhaven will transform into a melting pot of cultures in the next few days. Anyone who is on site during this time should not miss the chance to be part of this unforgettable experience!
