Premiere for the Wappen von Bremen”: New yacht rocks the North Sea!

On August 17, 2025, the new cruising yacht “Wappen von Bremen” was ceremonially put into operation in the New Lock Bremerhaven. The chairman of the sailing community Das Wappen von Bremen, which has existed since 1934, explained that this ship represents a significant enrichment for the club. The yacht, which is 16.80 meters long and 4.90 meters wide, impresses with its white hull and distinctive red stripes. A real eye-catcher that will shine not only in the local waters, but also on the wide currents on the coast. Yacht.de reports that the first test drive has already been successfully completed.

The “Wappen von Bremen” is the fourth cruising yacht of the club, which was once created as a yacht school and promotes the training of young sailors. Its predecessor, the “Coat of Arms of Bremen III”, was in use for over 34 years, was made of Kambala wood and ultimately required a comprehensive general overhaul. The new yacht was built for around 500,000 euros, which was raised through donations from members and the sponsoring ring. The association's building committee has also worked closely with both older and younger members to take everyone's needs into account.

Technical details and equipment

With space for up to ten crew members, the new yacht is not only suitable for short trips, but also designed for long trips to remote destinations. The aluminum construction ensures safety and durability, while the equipment with practical features such as USB ports, a radio and two toilets leaves nothing to be desired. The technical details of the “Coat of Arms of Bremen” are also remarkable:

feature Value
designer Judel/Vrolijk & Co
Body length 16.80 m
Waterline length 15.80 m
Width 4.90 m
Depth 2.70 m
Mast height 24.30 m
displacement 20 t
ballast 7 tons
Mainsail 87 m²
Genoa 76 m²

The first big journey of the “Warmen von Bremen” is supposed to lead across the North Sea to the Baltic States – an exciting adventure that many members of the club are already eagerly awaiting.

Future visions for sailing

The club is not only proud of the new yacht, but also plans to integrate modern technologies such as dynamic weather management systems in the future. This could help control so-called weather changes in real time to ensure crew safety and comfort. The ability to instantly adjust weather conditions via an in-game UI has great potential to improve the sailing experience. It remains exciting to see how such innovations will impact the future adventures of the “Warmen of Bremen”.

The “Coat of Arms of Bremen” is therefore not just a ship, but also a symbol of the tradition and future of sailing in Northern Germany. The commitment to training young sailors and the solidarity within the club will continue to sail the waves of the North Sea.
