Werder Bremen celebrates their third win in a row: 2-1 against RB Leipzig!

An impressive triumph for the Werder Bremen women's team: On November 9, 2025, the team celebrated a hard-fought 2-1 win against RB Leipzig under coach Friederike “Fritzy” Kromp. The Bremen women ended the English week with three wins from three games and climbed to fourth place in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga. SV Werder has now collected 19 points, more than in previous years after ten match days.

The match in front of 1032 spectators in the Weserstadion started a bit slowly, the first half was characterized by defensive play. The important opening goal came in the 38th minute when Michelle Ulbrich headed home a corner from Sharon Beck. “It was a great feeling to score a goal again after more than a year,” said Ulbrich, who is back in solid form with this set-piece goal.

Exciting twists

The second half brought more excitement: In the 71st minute, RB Leipzig equalized through Marlene Müller, who used a pass from Luca Graf. However, the Bremen team did not allow themselves to be deterred and continued their offensive. Emöke Papai became the hero of the day in the 81st minute when she scored the decisive 2-1 – her fourth goal this season as a substitute. “It’s just fun to play like that,” beamed Papai after the game.

The head-to-head race demonstrated the speed and determination of both teams. Leipzig had numerous chances in the second half, but were unable to capitalize on any more. In particular, a shot from Lisa Baum didn't find its way into the net. The victory for Werder Bremen was therefore not only deserved, but a sign of their emerging form.

The look forward

After the successful weekend, the Bremen team is now focusing on the upcoming DFB Cup round of 16 on November 16th against exactly the same opponent, RB Leipzig. Coach Kromp is looking forward to the challenge, but points out that the injury-related absences required extra work, including the suspension of Maja Sternad. Sharon Beck actively stepped in as a substitute and contributed to the overall strength of the team with her performance.

Overall, this week was a monumental success for Werder, which will hopefully raise morale for the upcoming games. “We have a good hand and the team shows character, even under pressure,” says Kromp, who is preparing for the next challenges with her team. Fans and players agree: the winning mood will carry over into the next week.
