One last wish by the sea: Thomas' moving trip to Travemünde

Sometimes it is the little wishes that bring the greatest light in life. This becomes particularly clear when seriously ill people who fight with their Situation have a last heart desire. The Workers' Samaritan Association (ASB) wish car has set itself the task of giving such wishes. An example of this is the 67-year-old Thomas, who lives in a hospice in Bad Oldesloe and longed to visit the Baltic Sea one last time. On April 8, a volunteer team around Kristina, Hans-Rudolf and Hauke fulfilled this dream, and Thomas was given the opportunity to enjoy the fresh sea air and the waves again.

The first stop was the picturesque old town of Lübeck, where Thomas ’mother rose to the tour group. We continued to the mole in Travemünde, where the sky was bright blue and the mood was peaceful. When Thomas arrived, the delicious fish roll at Gosch was waiting for him. Despite the strenuous journey and his declining forces, he spent a day full of warmth, memories and love. "It was simply indescribable," said Hauke, one of the desired fillers, grateful for the touching experience.

Anni Martin's trip to the sea

Moving the journey from Anni Martin, 76 years old and incurable to cancer. Her last wish was a visit to the sea, which she happily fulfilled with her son Peter in Graal-Müritz. She was also accompanied by volunteers who not only made it possible for her on the beach, but also showed the necessary sensitivity to leave the mother-son duo valuable moments on their own.

Anni enjoyed her time by the sea to the fullest and no longer felt pain for a moment. "It was beautiful and an experience that I will wear forever in my heart," she reported after returning to the hospice. This fulfillment of heart wishes shows how important it is to collect beautiful memories even in difficult times.

The project Wunschwagen

The ASB wish car was launched in 2014 to give people with unfulfilled wishes to give a final pleasure. In addition to the journeys already mentioned, many other, as important as important as well as participation in a wedding or reunion with family members, have come true. These fulfillments are often accompanied by organizational, health and financial hurdles that make it necessary to act unbureaucratically and quickly.

Nationwide are now available 23 wish cars that are operated by volunteers. The vehicles are specially equipped and offer a little comfort on the trip with panoramic windows and a music system. The trips are free of charge for those affected and an accompanying person, which makes this offer particularly valuable. Financing takes place exclusively by donations from private individuals and companies, which underlines the high social relevance of the project.

The "Wishcar - Last wishes" campaign not only has a high emotional value for those affected, but also offers their families the opportunity to create valuable memories and experience the last wish together. As Thomas and Anni were able to experience, it is often the simpler things that mean the most.
