New shine for the Eichtalpark: locked paths, but a lot being planned!

In the Eichtalpark in Wandsbek, there is currently a lot of tackling! The residents can look forward to a beautification of the park, which started on June 13, 2025. Extensive work is planned over the next four weeks, which include planting shrubs and perennials, the construction of water -bound paths and the installation of new benches. The park entrance on Kedenburgstrasse is also being redesigned. The path connection from Kedenburgstrasse to the restaurant building is currently temporarily closed. The main hiking trail is not passable during this time, and pedestrians are asked to use the designated detours. Information on the cancellation of the blocks is available on site at the construction fences and online, including at the hamburg.de.

The work in the Eichtalpark comes at an important time when the health of parks in Germany is under considerable pressure. According to the first climate park damage report from the TU Berlin, funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation, 59 % of all examined trees in the parks are damaged. This illustrates the seriousness of the situation: In a report, 64,202 of 157,323 trees recorded were classified as vital, while 78,522 (50 %) are slightly to medium and 14,598 (9 %) are severely damaged or even dead. Parks such as the Jenischpark in Hamburg are particularly affected, where 90-100 % of the trees are damaged. The report emphasizes that domestic plants get along with climate stress than foreign tree species, which underlines the importance of well-thought-out garden concepts dbu.de.

maybe soon no diversions

After the end of the work in the Eichtalpark, it is expected that the park will become even more attractive for residents and visitors. This could have a positive effect on the use of the park, because many people like to spend time in nature. In addition, another interesting event will take place on June 27: The nature and water adventure park in Castrop-Rauxel will be closed for a closed event from the Emscher cooperative from early noon. The inputs north, the bee house and the Emscher bridge are blocked during this period, but the park will open again from 5 p.m.

The continued measures to improve places and the necessary protection strategies for nature are not only a pretty face, but also vital for biodiversity and climate adaptation. Experts demand that the parks have to be designed to be sustainable in order to defy the challenges of climate change. This also includes the consideration of planting heat-resistant tree species, such as the fluff oak or the silver lindle. The ultimate goal is to preserve these "natural jewels" and make them tangible for future generations.
