Summer hit in Hamburg: sailing, music and barbecue fun on August 17th!
The event “Around the Michel” will be broadcast on NDR television on August 17, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. This successful mix of entertainment and information shows what Hamburg has to offer in summer. There are many exciting events that captivate both locals and visitors.
A special highlight is the 24-hour regatta run by the Academic Sailing Club Hamburg (ASV), which has enjoyed great popularity since 2004. Up to 30 teams compete here to sail on the Alster for a whole day and night. The changing crew after each round ensures that every second counts. The winner is the team that covers the longest distance - a battle against time and the elements!
Water adventures and music
But there is also an exciting offer on the Süderelbe. A kayak tour stretches over 16 kilometers through lots of greenery and has been organized by the Süderelbe water sports club since 1921. Nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts alike can get their money's worth here.
Music lovers should definitely visit the tea pavilion in the ramparts. This charming address is a meeting place for fans of South American sounds, where salsa, bachata and forro get your dance legs moving. A little Latin American flair in the middle of Hamburg!
Ecological experiences and creative impulses
Anyone interested in organic farming and fresh products will find the perfect place to go at Gut Wulksfelde. Here, visitors can not only get to know life on an organic farm, but also actively participate and connect with nature.
Hamburg's barbecue culture is put to the test during the barbecue meadow check. Popular places such as the Stadtparkwiese, the Outer Alster and the Elbe beach are being examined to determine whether they are suitable for grilling. The ideal place for a summer BBQ is guaranteed!
A completely different creative approach is pursued at the Zinnwerke creative center in Wilhelmsburg. There, the textile artist Berenice Möller works on the “1qm” project, which is dedicated to the processing of local linen fabric. Art and sustainability are the focus here, and the results are impressive.
Help for balcony lovers
And if you want to transform your balcony into a blooming island of peace and quiet, balcony consultant Petra Weinstein is in the best hands. Here you will find ideas and instructions on how every balcony can become a blooming paradise.
At all of these events and offers, the topic of coolness is also very important: Ronald Anzensberger specializes in making ice cubes in various shapes and turns ice into true works of art. A pleasure that not only provides refreshment in summer!
The event will be moderated by Merlin van Rissenbeck, while Sandra Eichmann and Anja Günther will be responsible for the editorial team. In summer, Hamburg offers many opportunities to relax, linger and celebrate - the perfect opportunity to experience the city from its most beautiful side!
