Yared Dibaba lends a hand: the outdoor swimming pool in Hamburg shines again!

Things are going well in Northern Germany! Yared Dibaba launched the new NDR campaign “UNITED in the North – Yared lends a hand” to actively support local associations. The campaign includes four exciting episodes in which the friendly presenter gets involved together with a colleague from an NDR state radio station. Your goal? To give the clubs in the region a breath of fresh air and new shine. This is what our colleagues report NDR about the first location of the campaign: the Duvenstedt e.V. outdoor pool in Hamburg.

The outdoor pool has an eventful history. Founded over 40 years ago by committed citizens, it was intended to prevent impending closure. Today, craftsmen are in demand there, as painters, gardeners and helpers in numerous areas are on the wish list for the upcoming projects. Renovations are planned, such as painting the pool and refinishing wooden benches. The cleaning campaign for the lying areas will also help to increase the attractiveness of the bathroom.

Lending a hand together for the community

Yared is no stranger to supporting the community. With his media presence and his enthusiasm, he motivates the region to join the project. “Community engagement is a central aspect of social responsibility,” explains a report by FasterCapital. Activities such as volunteer work and participatory decision-making processes are required here to bring about sustainable change.

One of the biggest challenges is finding lifeguards. In order for the outdoor pool to be operated safely, it is necessary to find enough qualified staff. This is where Nicole Steins, presenter of NDR 90.3, comes into play. She uses the radio to draw attention to the search. Their commitment demonstrates the importance of the media's voice in public relations and community mobilization.

Transformation of the multi-generational house

The second stop of the campaign is the multi-generational house in Dannenberg. This has already been targeted because it currently presents itself in a rather dreary atmosphere. The goal is to create a welcoming place for families and all ages. It lacks warmth and an appealing ambience; However, there are numerous tasks for rural youth and young rural women. The plan: to decorate the children's corner with bright colors and invite the community to get creatively involved.

Yared and his colleagues are full of enthusiasm and the first successes are already visible. The older generation is enthusiastic about the new liveliness, while the first young families stream curiously and curiously into the newly designed MGH. Britta von Lucke reports live on the radio about the progress and transformation of the house, which is to become a home for all generations. Their commitment once again highlights how shared commitment can bring about positive change.

An important aspect of this initiative is the promotion of community practices. According to the initiative of FasterCapital There are numerous ways in which companies and individuals can assume social responsibility. Be it through sponsorships, volunteer programs or the development of initiatives to promote community cohesion.

Yared Dibaba is determined to intensify community engagement in Northern Germany. In this exciting series he shows not only how to roll up your sleeves, but also how every hand counts. Anyone who would like to take part is warmly invited, because as the campaign teaches: we can do it together!
