Overflow of literature: Christine Westermann and Mona Ameziane in the new podcast!
On Monday, June 30, 2025, Christine Westermann and Mona Ameziane will bring a breath of fresh air to the literary world with their podcast “Two Sides – The Podcast About Books”. The program, which can be heard on the ARD audio library and on the WDR 5 radio show, promises both controversial and consensual discussions about books and literature. The two presenters talk about personal reading tips and anecdotes that not only entertain, but also make you think. NDR reports that the broadcast dates for the coming week have been set: Monday, June 30th, from 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, July 1st, from 5:15 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
The show is supported by Miriam Rumohr as production manager and Stephanie Barrenberg as editorial director. Christine Westermann, who is considered the grande dame of literary journalism, and 31-year-old Mona Ameziane, who addresses the young generation in the book world, invite their listeners to explore the world of literature from two perspectives.
A look at the topics
The first episode provides an exciting foretaste of the topics covered. Christine Westermann recommends the book “Everything as Always” by Shirley Jackson, which is about a family that moves in the 1950s, and Mona Ameziane presents “Okay Days” by Jenny Mustard, which tells of a love story between London and Stockholm. These are just a few examples of how the two presenters illuminate central topics such as heartache, wanderlust, family and sleep through suitable books.
From February 2024, radio listeners will enjoy the “2 Seiten” program, which will be broadcast every week on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. This appeals to an additional audience who may be looking for new reading recommendations and a stimulating exchange about literature. They thus offer a forum for intergenerational dialogue - a concern that is particularly important to both moderators.
A thriving podcast environment
The world of literary podcasts is booming like never before. A wide range of formats, from feminist book podcasts to programs about the challenges of making books, can be found on platforms such as literaturpodcasts.de. Here, various hosts such as Maria-Christina and Ludwig discuss independent publishing, while Judith Gridl and Klaus Rathje welcome authors into their Berlin rooms to chat about current literary topics.
This diversity reflects a great interest in literature and its various facets. So the attentive literature fan not only buys a book, but also a ticket to the exciting world of podcasts, which dynamically promote reading culture and create new reading experiences.
If you don't want to take on the obligations of the weekly broadcasts, you can use the ARD audio library and listen to the episodes in a relaxed manner. With their podcast “Two Sides,” Christine Westermann and Mona Ameziane set an example for the exchange between generations in the literary world and magically captivate the audience.
