Aggressive Ukrainian and man with an ax: Police in constant operation in Anklam!

In Anklam, Vorpommern-Greifswald district, the police had to intervene in two incidents on November 28, 2025 that caused a stir. The first operation took place in the morning in a refugee accommodation when a 21-year-old Ukrainian appeared aggressive towards the officers while they were recording a theft. This man is already known to the police and does not have a driver's license. In order to bring the situation under control, around 15 other Ukrainians showed solidarity with him, including his mother and a 34-year-old who is known for similar crimes. To ward off physical attacks, officers used pepper spray and batons. Unfortunately, an employee of a security company was also injured, as NDR reports.

The second incident occurred at midday at the train station. There the police encountered a 41-year-old man who was armed with an ax and appeared aggressive. This man is also known to the police. To get him to give up his weapon, the officers used firearms and pepper spray. After the de-escalation, the man was initially taken into custody and then had to be treated in a clinic for irritation to his eyes and face. A breath alcohol test showed a level of just under two per mille, whereupon he was taken to a closed facility.

Background to the situation in Germany

The incidents in Anklam are part of a larger problem affecting Germany. Between 2016 and 2024, there was a worrying increase in attacks on refugees and refugee shelters, as evidenced by a study by the German Bundestag. This data can be viewed on Statista and was last accessed on November 28, 2025.

As the incidents in Anklam show, dealing with aggression and violence in social institutions remains a challenge. Particularly in the current situation, in which many people are seeking protection, such events are worrying and require rapid action by the police and security forces. Even if the authorities are trying to manage the situation, support from society remains a crucial factor in promoting coexistence and minimizing conflicts.

The police are continuing to investigate those involved in both cases. It remains to be seen what measures will be taken to prevent future incidents and ensure a safe environment for everyone.
