Crime is changing
While overall crime in Germany fell slightly by 1.7% in 2024, violent crime and sexual crimes increased. According to the current Police crime statistics (PKS), we are experiencing the highest level of violent crime since 2007. At the same time, the number of suspected children and young people is increasing, which is also cause for concern.
The discussion about security in our society and the causes of increasing levels of violence will continue. Nevertheless, the case in Anklam shows that the local authorities can react quickly and effectively even in acute threatening situations. It is hoped that future incidents of this kind will not occur and that community members can feel safe in their living spaces.
