A breath of fresh air in the Anklam boys' choir: new voices, emotional farewell!
A new chapter for the Anklamer Boys' Choir was opened at this year's town hall concert. The event, which took place on June 17, 2025, offered a successful mix of farewell to well-known singers and the celebration of new members. Choir director Mike Hartmann, who has led the choir since 2004, is optimistic about the future, despite the challenges brought about by the corona pandemic and a loss of members. “We are on the right track,” emphasizes Hartmann, who is pleased about the numerous new arrivals, including children from the Peeneburg Protestant school.
The concert presented a lively snapshot between departure and farewell. Applause for the fresh faces made the audience feel that the choir remains alive and continues to develop. Particularly noteworthy is the farewell to Robin Joshua Weiß, who now works as a hotel specialist in Zinnowitz. He expressed sadness about his departure, but plans to remain associated with the choir as a guest singer.
Outstanding achievements and honors
Numerous honors were also presented at the event. Five young singers received honorary membership: Lukas Batthauer (8 years), Tobias Krüger (7 years), Willi Panschow (11 years), Willi Eggebrecht (8 years) and Robin Joshua Weiß (8 years). Luca Schütze and Lennart Batthauer also completed the transition from the junior choir to the concert choir. This continuous growth is a sign that the Anklamer Boys' Choir, which was founded in 1972 and is the only boys' choir in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, not only preserves a cultural heritage, but also cultivates newer forms of vocal music.
The choir's activities are diverse; In addition to rehearsals and concerts in both Anklam and Western Pomerania, the singers also take part in theater productions. The Anklamer Boys' Choir has made a name for itself through participation in national and international competitions and through concert tours abroad. High-profile appearances on television shows and at festivals are also part of the choir's repertoire.
A call to the youth
Mike Hartmann is looking for more young singers, especially those aged 7 to 8. Newcomers are welcome, but must take an exam. This promotion of young talent is crucial for the continued existence of the choir, which is also underlined by the support of a parents' council and the support association founded in 2002.
