Fairytale-like spectacle: Fischer drama delights Loitzer audience!

In the tranquil community of Loitz in the Gülzowshof district, a traditional theater performance during Advent has once again captured the hearts of the audience. The women's sports group there has been presenting a very special spectacle based on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm for more than 25 years. But this year visitors will experience a Low German adaptation of the story “Fischer und syner Fru”, which was once written by Philipp Otto Runge. Again Northern Courier reports, the occasionally humorous theater play has now transformed from a small audience in the manor house to a full room in the village pub.

The performance takes the audience into the story of the fisherman Astrid Naussed and his wife Ilse, played by Gerlinde Zander. Their fate changes dramatically when they catch a flounder who turns out to be an enchanted prince. The wishes that the Flounder fulfills initially begin modestly – a simple herring roll. But soon the dissatisfied Ilse's list of demands grows ever higher until she finally demands a new kitchen with every appliance imaginable, including a Thermomix and a hot air fryer. The characters enjoy their suddenly better lives, which even include trips to the Maldives. The Flounder, who acts as a true magician, becomes the driving force of these wishes.

From modesty to excess

As is usual in classic fairy tales, this story also shows a sharp turn from modesty to excess. While Ilse demands more and more, her relationship with the fisherman is on the brink. She even dreams of traveling to the moon faster than NASA and ESA, which causes a fair amount of conflict between the couple. In the end, he reports Wikipedia, Ilse is punished for her excess and finds herself back in the humble hut from which she once came. It is a powerful reminder of the consequences of greed and insatiable desire.

The fairy tale world, here significantly influenced by the work of the Brothers Grimm, remains inextricably interwoven with the experiences of human existence. They are often about the happy resolution of a conflict and feature characters who grow through adventures and strokes of fate. All of this comes to life impressively in the performance, as the audience joins in with the Low German call of the fisherman and becomes as active a part of the story as in Planet knowledge is explained.

A highlight of this special production will be the further performance at the Christmas party, to which pensioners and teachers from Loitz are invited. Here you can experience again how fairy tales, which are old and yet retold again and again, bring joy and contemplation to a community. The tradition of keeping fairy tales alive through the theater remains alive in Loitz and enjoys unbroken popularity.
