Sports badge day in Anklam: bronze, silver and gold for everyone!

On July 16, 2025, the Vorpommern-Greifswald district's sports badge day took place in the Werner-Seelenbinder Stadium in Anklam. This event attracted numerous schools, clubs, companies and interested citizens, who had the opportunity to acquire the German sports badge until 6 p.m. The day was all about sporting activity and health promotion, with special attention to inclusion - everyone, regardless of impairments, could take part. The award is given in bronze, silver and gold levels and is based on basic motor skills: endurance, strength, speed and coordination.

What was particularly pleasing was the lively participation of around 2,800 children from the region who wanted to prove themselves in various disciplines. The German Sports Badge, which is considered the highest award outside of competitive sports, is awarded by German Olympic Sports Confederation awarded. Children aged six and over and adults aged 18 and over can earn this award. The prerequisite is that at least one exercise from each of the four discipline groups is successfully completed. Proof of swimming skills is also required.

A role model for everyone

A very special example of commitment and perseverance is 88-year-old Wolfram Kunze from Braunschweig, who has already collected 70 sports badges and is now looking for his 71st award. Stories like these show that it's never too late to get active and set yourself sporting goals.

The motivation to participate was clearly noticeable on the sports badge day District sports association ensured that the costs of the badges and certificates were covered. There are also further sports badge days coming up in the region, including in Neuenkirchen and Jarmen next week, and in Strasburg and Greifswald in September.

Inclusion in sport

The topic of inclusion played a central role at this event. The German Olympic Sports Confederation has set itself the goal of anchoring inclusion in sport. At a specialist forum in Berlin, it was discussed how inclusion can be successfully implemented in and through sport. Numerous projects were presented that show how different sports can be made inclusive, including special offers for people with disabilities.

The sports badge day in Anklam once again proved that sport brings people together and is an important building block for health and community in our region. It remains to be hoped that many more people will take the opportunity to become active and perhaps even acquire the German sports badge.
