Series of fires in Bergen: Police are investigating suspected arson!
In the tranquil town of Bergen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, concerns about safety are burning. On July 15, 2025, around 6:20 p.m., the police discovered suspected arson on Bahnhofstrasse. An extension of a residential building was set on fire, while rubbish bins were also completely engulfed in flames. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the criminal police's investigation is already in full swing, as NDR reports.
The criminal police are also checking whether this incident is related to a series of fires in Bergen. Just recently, for example, several garbage cans burned on Feldstrasse. These developments are causing concern among local residents and police have been paying close attention to witnesses. Information can be reported directly to the police in Bergen.
Past incidents and high levels of property damage
A particularly dramatic incident occurred in April 2025, when a pile of bulky waste next to a transformer house was set on fire. Despite the rapid response of the Bergen Volunteer Fire Department, which was on site with three vehicles, there was significant material damage of around 150,000 euros. Fortunately, the transformer remained functional, but the fire had spread significantly, as stated in a report from Polizei MV.
In June there was another fire in the basement of an apartment building. These frequent incidents raise questions and show that arson is a serious problem in the region. The numbers in Germany are alarming: between 2014 and 2024, numerous cases were recorded by the police, as stated in a study by the Federal Criminal Police Office. Unfortunately, arson is not a rare phenomenon.
Call for attention and help
The police are calling on the public to be vigilant and report information. Any information can be crucial in finding the perpetrators and preventing further incidents of this kind. A good knack for observing and reporting suspicious activity can be crucial.
The security situation in Bergen remains tense. Residents are called upon to remain vigilant and support police work in order to put an end to the arsonists' activities.
