Fraudsters in Western Pomerania: Greifswald couple loses over 75,000 euros!

In the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, fraudsters are active again and it seems as if the “grandchild trick” is finding a new variant. The Ostsee-Zeitung reports that more and more calls are being received from perpetrators who pose as close relatives and tell clever stories of made-up plights. They put victims under emotional pressure and specifically ask if they have any cash.

A particularly tragic case concerns a couple from Greifswald who lost over 75,000 euros to fraudsters. They posed as financial experts and offered a supposed opportunity for stock transactions via WhatsApp. Fascinated by the false promises of winnings, the man paid money into foreign accounts over several weeks.

Police warning

The police are currently investigating this incident and strongly warn against the machinations of these fraudsters. It is advisable to call back numbers to known numbers when you receive calls from alleged family members asking for money. Additionally, you should never disclose financial information. “Be careful with offers from chat groups or from unknown contacts,” officials warned.

In addition, the police advise you to carry out your own research and, if in doubt, seek advice from your bank. Even if fraud is suspected, citizens can report their concerns quickly and easily. This is the best way to stay protected from the criminal activities of these scammers.

Financial trends and developments

ThePaypers berichtet, dass das schwedische Fintech-Unternehmen Klarna einen neuen Anlauf für einen Börsengang in New York plant, möglicherweise bereits im September oder Oktober 2025.

Klarna wants to move away from its previous positioning in the Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) sector and present itself as a digital bank. A few weeks ago, the company received approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for new products in the UK, underlining the refresh of its market strategy.

Unfortunately, the path to the stock market is not without its challenges. The originally planned IPO was halted due to market volatility caused by, among other things, tariffs. Despite high losses due to restructuring, Klarna's sales are showing positive development.
