In Stralsund next weekend everything revolves around the Bundeswehr. On “Bundeswehr Day”, the army invites you to open its doors and communicate transparently with the population. The event starts on Saturday at 10 a.m. and offers a colorful mix of information, activities and impressive demonstrations.
A highlight of the event will be the air show, showcasing both the skill of naval aviation and the impressive capabilities of the Airbus A400M. There will be several overflights in the air, including three A400Ms at 10:30 a.m. and various flight demonstrations at 10:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. In addition, the corvette Magdeburg and a tender at the “Open Ship” provide insights into the maritime world of the Bundeswehr, which are located in the port of Stralsund.
A day full of discoveries
At 3 p.m. the event will reach its ceremonial climax with the swearing in and swearing in of new recruits from the Naval Technology School in Parow. Among the guests of honor are Inspector General Carsten Breuer, the Interior Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Christian Pegel and Stralsund's Mayor Dr. Alexander Badrow. These personalities underline the importance of the event.
It is important for visitors that parking spaces are not available at the event site. It is recommended to use the P&R parking spaces in Werftstrasse, and a boat shuttle connects the island of Dänholm with the event site from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Bus shuttles and public transport are organized for those with disabilities, although it should be noted that these are not barrier-free and no animals are allowed. Drivers should also pay attention to the inner-city traffic management system.
Experience the diversity of the Air Force
In addition to the activities on Bundeswehr Day, the upcoming Bundeswehr Discovery Days are also worth mentioning. This event will take place from November 18th to 22nd, 2024 in southern Germany and is aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 20. Here participants can experience modern technologies up close, from transport helicopters to Eurofighter fighter jets. The Discovery Days are already fully booked, which underlines the great popularity of such events.
Another star of the Luftwaffe, the Airbus A400M, is not only present during the air show. The multifunctional transport aircraft has proven itself to be a real lifesaver over the last ten years. It not only transports military equipment such as the NH90 transport helicopter or the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, but also humanitarian aid supplies and has been used in evacuation operations in crisis areas such as Kabul and Sudan. The A400M is a real all-rounder that can even function as a flying hospital.
With these two events, the Bundeswehr shows how important its commitment to society is and at the same time offers interesting insights into its diverse tasks.
