This year, visitors to the...Fishing festival gaff rigin Wieck, Greifswald, look forward to an exciting weekend. From theJuly 18-20, 2025The traditional festival will bring the coastal town to life. The opening will take place on Friday and will be themed with a spectacular pyro, laser and light show“Ryck on fire”celebrated. The city shows itself at its best when everything shines in colorful lights.
One of the biggest attractions is theGaff rig, which features around 45 historical and modern sailfishermen who cross the Wiecker bascule bridge on Saturday. NDR reports that this traditional highlight is a very special eye-catcher for visitors. The ships, including around 40 museum ships and modern yachts, are expertly presented and bring maritime flair to the city.
Colorful supporting program for young and old
But the fishing festival has much more to offer than just ships. A varied program on three stages ensures entertainment of all kinds: from musical performances and children's areas to fairs and strolls. Here the little ones can look forward to children's carousels and exciting rides, while the older ones can have fun in the bumper cars or enjoy the view from the Ferris wheel - a perfect place to admire the traditional ships in the evening.
Sports enthusiasts can also rely on theWorld Ryckhanging Championshipsbe happy. Participants have to cross a 30-meter-long plastic rope using their own technique – that takes skill! The rope is kept taut using a tractor, which makes the challenge even more exciting.
For the ZK10 cutter regatta, the best teams from Germany will compete against each other in the Danish Wiek. The fight here is not just for the title, but also for recognition in the regional community.
Entrance and arrival
TheNDRwill also be there and report daily from 5:30 a.m. on the national program of NDR 1 Radio MV. This means that those interested are well informed about what is going on on the festival day and what highlights there are to experience. Overall, it can be said that the Gaffelrigg Fishing Festival will be a post-invitation event this year that should not be missed.
