Court raises controversial school reference to Greifswald students!

Greifswald, Deutschland - In a surprising judgment, the Greifswald administrative court lifted a school reference to a ninth grader from the city. The student was questioned about an alleged right-wing extremist gesture that was said to have been made during a visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp memorial. According to the Ostsee-Zeitung , however, it is a lack of evidence. The judges found no clear signs of a Nazi gesture and criticized the procedure of Minister of Education Simone Oldenburg (left), which had obviously exerted public pressure without deeper knowledge.

In the specific case, a Tikok video caused excitement in which the boys made a controversial hand movement. Oldenburg then called for "hard regulatory measures" and pronounced a school reference. But the judges were of the opinion that this was not justified and complained about the minister's inadmissible interference.

resistance in public

The parents of the two affected ninth graders have already initiated an urgent procedure at the administrative court in order to proceed against the school references. A non-public discussion has already been set. However, due to the age of those involved, there is no further information on the current matter.

political reactions and social debate

Politically, Oldenburg is under pressure. While some of the opposition accuse them of "working right -wing extremists everywhere", the left in their clear attitude against right -wing extremism sees a necessary step. This argument raises questions about how we deal with extremism as a society and in particular how schools should react to corresponding incidents.

The International Auschwitz Committee also expressed criticism of the court decision and appeals to the responsibility of educational institutions to proceed against any form of extremism and racism. They emphasize that such incidents urgently need to be taken seriously to prevent the story from repeating

The discussion about dealing with right -wing extremist statements in schools remains lively and tense. In fact, a picture is emerging that worries and calls on those responsible for action. It remains to be hoped that this situation will be teached to improve the climate in schools and to convey a clear, respectful attitude for young people. A joint action of administrations, schools and parents will urgently be necessary to counter this challenge.
