Greifswald celebrates MV Day: tradition and diversity for 50,000 visitors!
Next weekend things will really get going in Greifswald, because the 15th Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Day is just around the corner! From Friday, June 20th to Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, the city will have numerous activities and a colorful program. Around 40,000 to 50,000 visitors are expected to experience the diverse offerings and celebrations based on the motto “Tradition, Innovation and Diversity”. Borkener Zeitung reports that this festival not only celebrates the 35th birthday of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, but also the 775th anniversary of Greifswald.
The city center will be dedicated to twelve thematic areas where exhibitors from all possible areas will present their information and products. Be it for the agriculture and food industry or the great sports offers of the state sports association - every age group will get their money's worth. Over 90 exhibitors are there, including the state government, universities and numerous associations. What would a festival like this be without the musical highlights? The pop band Marquess will rock the stage on Friday evening, followed by singer Joris on Saturday evening. The NDR Vorpommernstudio will also have a program and special features from 11 a.m.; The little visitors can look forward to Ernie and Bert and other KiKA heroes! [NDR].
Venues and supporting program
The new “MV eats well” experience area at Mühlentor is also particularly exciting, where visitors can experience the regional food industry up close. There is all sorts of modern agricultural technology to marvel at here, and a lot of interesting information about green professions is waiting to be discovered. A historical market, various stages and a varied sports program will also attract visitors. For everyone who wants to be mobile, there are even free rides on the historic railway line between Greifswald and Lubmin on Saturday and Sunday. This connection was closed to passenger traffic in 1999 and leads to the former nuclear power plant, making it a very special attraction! Kultur MV.
To ensure that everything runs smoothly despite the large crowds, the police provide security with an extensive contingent. The city center will be difficult to access from Friday afternoon, which is why a bypass is recommended. Accessibility is also a top priority: lower barriers have been removed and there are special parking spaces and ramps for wheelchair users. There will also be sign language interpreters and hearing amplifiers at the official program points.
A feast for all senses
And the best comes last: On Sunday evening, the city of Greifswald invites you to a Sunday shopping event! Here, visitors can not only enjoy the festive offerings, but also get to know the local shopping city better. After an eventful weekend, things get really festive with a final concert by the Greifswald choir “Solala”.
Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig will lead a citizens' forum in front of St. Mary's Church on Sunday afternoon to promote dialogue with citizens. “It is important that we talk to each other and exchange ideas,” says Schwesig. The full three-day program offers something for everyone and will not only celebrate old traditions, but also present new ideas and innovations for the country. Ready, set, celebrate!
