Strong drug controls on the A20: Police find cocaine and testosterone!

The police carried out large-scale checks on the A20 in Western Pomerania on October 9th and 10th, 2025. These measures focused on alcohol, drugs and medication, such as the Baltic Sea newspaper reported. The checks involved experienced police officers, including a master foreman with 20 years of experience, as well as customs officers who were supposed to check the illegal export of drugs and other banned substances. The parking lot was crowded with emergency vehicles, customs officers and sniffer dogs, while officers appeared to have a high hit rate in their investigations.

The composition of the drivers checked was particularly striking. Many vehicles had Polish license plates and a number of middle-aged men were stopped. Among those arrested were a father who was driving under the influence of drugs with his wife and daughter, and a Danish minibus driver who was carrying drugs and a white powder in his vehicle. In addition, a man was stopped in a VW Transporter for taking excessive medication.

Diverse finds and high number of advertisements

The police have documented numerous violations. These include, among others, four Polish construction workers who were in a Fiat without a driver's license and a driver of a red BMW who was carrying 20 grams of grass - but he was allowed to keep it. Another driver who suffered from cocaine use had to accept a fine of 608 euros. In total, more than 30 reports were filed within seven hours, which underlines the effectiveness of the controls.

The drivers themselves mostly seem to understand the controls. However, few expressed genuine remorse for their transgressions. Police Chief Chris Kossow emphasized the importance of such measures, which not only serve public safety, but also point out the dangers of drugged driving. “There’s something going on,” you could say when you look at the high number of abnormalities.

Awareness raising initiatives

In this context, the role of the organization BADS (Association against Alcohol and Drugs in Road Traffic), based in Hamburg, is becoming increasingly important. This non-profit association works intensively to combat alcohol and other intoxicants in traffic. Their tasks include, among other things, raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and promoting research in this area, according to the information bads.de.

The BADS also focuses on working with other organizations to raise awareness of safe driving. The recent inspections on the A20 highlight the importance of these efforts in improving road safety in the short and long term and preventing accidents caused by drugs and alcohol.

In summary, the police action on the A20 shows not only the pressing problems in road traffic, but also the necessary cooperation between the police and various institutions such as the BADS in order to effectively combat these dangers. The coming weeks and months will show how successful these measures are in practice.
