Finally: After years of closure, the Ibitz Bridge is coming back!

The situation has been tense for a long time: the bridge over the Ibitzbach at the corner of Georg-Bohl-Weg and Wilhelm-Irrgang-Weg is dilapidated and has been closed for years. A narrow path remained passable, but this posed a major challenge, especially for families with strollers and wheelchair users. The bridge connects the outskirts of the city with the city center and therefore has a central function for the Anklam population. But now a solution like this is emerging Northern Courier reported.

Finally something is moving: construction is about to begin on the replacement building for the Ibitz Bridge. The city administration has received the necessary approvals and tenders are currently being prepared. The contract is expected to be awarded quickly, meaning the new bridge construction could potentially be completed by the end of 2025 - assuming the weather cooperates.

Financing and grants

The total costs for the renovation of the bridge amount to around 200,000 euros. So that the city does not have to overstretch its budget, funding is used. The city itself has to raise around 81,617 euros, while urban development funding provides around 125,000 euros. This support is particularly important in order to improve accessibility and to enable all citizens to participate independently in social life, as well as from Bavarian State Ministry highlighted.

The bridge renovation will be carried out using a prefabricated bridge. This means that installation requires additional adjustments to the trim and railing. It is all the more important that the new building is not only safe, but also accessible to everyone - an aspect that is particularly important in view of demographic changes and the increasing importance of accessibility for older people.

Traffic routes and accessibility

The planning will aim to provide access to all citizens, regardless of age or limitations. The standards for accessibility in public transport and open spaces have been in force since 2014. These rules not only deal with the design of street spaces or local public transport, but also contain requirements for taking cognitive impairments into account. The goal is dialogue and collaboration between all those involved in order to create the broadest and most inclusive transport offering possible.

With the upcoming bridge renovation, we are getting a little closer to the dream of a modern and barrier-free city. Finally, the bridge not only lives up to its original purpose, but also ensures that all residents of Anklam can once again use the paths between the outskirts and the city center without any problems.
