First organ concert after renovation: Enjoy music in Güstrow Cathedral!

Today we invite you to take part in a musical treat in Güstrow Cathedral. The first organ concert after the extensive renovation of the Wegscheider organ will take place on Tuesday, August 5th at 7:30 p.m. This is a very special event that will attract music lovers in the region. Christian Skobowsky, who has worked as cantor at Ratzeburg Cathedral since 2007, will make the organ sound. Skobowsky, born in Potsdam and trained in Dresden and Halle, has already earned an excellent reputation as a church musician.

The Wegscheider organ, which was built in 1996, was thoroughly cleaned and reworked for several months in order to restore its tonal qualities. The concert title “Elevating” underlines the selection of pieces, which will consist of ascending keys. Look forward to works by renowned composers such as J. J. Froberger, J. S. Bach, P. Hindemith and O. Messiaen. Entry is available at the box office for 8 euros.

Variety of concerts in the region

Güstrow offers much more musically than just this single concert. Today, July 15th, an organ concert will take place in the parish church, where works by Bach and Widor can be heard. Werner Koch from Rostock will enchant listeners on the Sauer organ from 1931. Entry here is also 10 euros.

The Güstrower Kantorei has also prepared a varied program that will delight music lovers well into the cold season. Upcoming events include an oboe & organ concert on July 8th and a choir concert on September 9th in the cathedral, both at 7:30 p.m. In this way, the musical traditions in the region deepen and offer both classical and contemporary sound enjoyment. The admission prices are generally cheap and thus enable broad access to culture.

Commitment to music

The musical scene in Güstrow is also supported by the St. Katharinenkirche in Frankfurt am Main, which regularly hosts outstanding church music. Among other things, “30 minutes of organ music” as well as discussion concerts take place there, which combine the parish and concerts. An extensive program that is also well received in Güstrow.
