Quality of life in Rostock: Take part and win 200 euros!

In the Rostock district, the quality of life of its citizens is currently being examined. The Nordkurier is conducting a comprehensive survey that deals with various aspects of everyday life. This project is part of an effort to identify both strengths and weaknesses in the region and initiate improvements accordingly. The survey covers 15 subject areas, including leisure activities, gastronomy, street cleanliness, cycle paths, childcare as well as medical care, shopping opportunities and safety. [Nordkurier].

The quality of life in Schwaan received an average rating of 6.27 points on a scale of 10. Schwaan residents are particularly dissatisfied with the gastronomic offering, which was rated at only 4.48 points. The rental prices, the housing supply and the traffic situation also reach around 4.5 points, which indicates a certain need for action. However, the ratings for sports clubs, child care, family friendliness, cleanliness and the retail offering in the city are positive.

Important surveys in Rostock

At the same time, the city of Rostock is also conducting a citizen survey that focuses on quality of life, public services and social issues. 10,000 randomly selected citizens from Rostock receive mail from the town hall and are invited to take part in the survey. This includes around 30 questions about schools, parks, security and city administration. The city administration emphasizes the importance of broad participation for meaningful results. Participation is anonymous, voluntary and can take place online, by post or at the town hall. Anyone who is over 18 years old and lives in Rostock can also take part in the survey, even if they were not contacted directly. Rathaus Rostock points out that the results will be published in a comprehensive report.

The German Urban Statistics Working Group is responsible for coordinating these surveys. The seventh coordinated survey on “Quality of Life in German Cities” will be carried out in autumn 2024, in which a large number of cities from all over Germany will take part, including Rostock. These surveys have been an integral part of the city's statistics since 2004 and make it possible to carry out comparative analyzes that are important for future planning. The surveys are aimed at a selected group of people aged 15 and over and offer valuable insights into citizens' satisfaction. Further information on this is available on the city statistics website.

It remains to be seen what specific changes will result from these surveys. However, one thing is clear: the opinions and needs of citizens are more in demand than ever. And who knows, maybe citizen feedback will even help take the next step in the right direction. The fact that people are willing to raise their voices shows that something is definitely happening in the region.
