New Year's Eve in Munich: Solidarity for the anti-fascist prisoner Hanna!

At the turn of the year, on December 31, 2025, numerous people gathered in front of the Munich-Stadelheim correctional facility to show their solidarity with imprisoned anti-fascists, including the anti-fascist Hanna from Nuremberg. Hanna is awaiting a verdict in the prison regarding her appeal in the so-called “Budapest complex”. Amidst greetings via megaphone and an impressive fireworks display around the prison, the participants expressed their dissatisfaction with the increasing repression against leftists and revolutionaries. This action was accompanied by a large number of slogans that were posted around the prison. Together, people demanded an end to state oppression and expressed solidarity with their imprisoned comrades. Based on a well-known resistance slogan, they chanted: “Peace to the huts, war to the palaces – fire and flame to all the prisons!” Participation in this action highlighted the collective resistance against the state's attempts to break militant solidarity through isolation. Indymedia reports that participation in such actions represents an important act of solidarity for many.

Hanna, who came into the public eye for the first time following a ruling by the Munich Higher Regional Court, was sentenced to five years in prison in September 2025. Your crime: grievous bodily harm and the formation of a criminal organization. Antifa info clarifies that the court noted their involvement in anti-fascist militant actions during the “Day of Honor” in Budapest, where right-wing extremist groups appeared in large numbers. Tragically, these events in particular are a reflection of the increasing repression against anti-fascists in Germany and Europe.

Solidarity under pressure

The mood surrounding the verdict against Hanna was tense. Around 200 supporters gathered in front of the Munich Higher Regional Court to demonstrate for their freedom. These protests were accompanied by massive emotional reactions and a powerful Antifa protest, while at the same time a right-wing march under the motto “Together for Germany” took place in the city. These two poles highlight the growing divide and tensions in the public sphere when it comes to anti-fascist and right-wing movements.

Hanna's case is not isolated. The Hungarian government under Viktor Orbán encourages such right-wing extremist gatherings, while the judiciary has formed a Europe-wide investigation horizon against anti-fascists, and these investigations are supported by German authorities. The atmosphere during the proceedings was characterized by political persecution as well as unprofessional translations and problematic witness statements. Such circumstances highlight not only the difficulties faced by antifascists, but also the sociopolitical conditions that are crucial for effective resistance. Wikipedia discusses the historical background of anti-fascism as an ever-changing movement that has formed over the decades to combat fascist and neo-fascist tendencies.

Resistance to the system

The demonstrations and the persistence of anti-fascists are more than a symbolic act; they are part of a multi-layered resistance against the systematic attacks on the anti-fascist movement. In recent years, many political prisoners in Germany and beyond have experienced increasing state repression aimed at suppressing opposition and tightening laws. This strengthens the sense of urgency to actively work for the freedom of not only Hanna, but for all those who are imprisoned because of their political beliefs.

The fight for Hanna's freedom prevailed at the greeting and is a clear call to everyone to oppose the increasing authoritarian tendencies. Solidarity must become practical and the will to resist remains unbroken. The anti-fascist movements in Germany and Europe show that in the long term they not only talk about politics, but also actively defend themselves. As they say: “Solidarity forever!”
