Dabel celebrates 70 years of carnival: a parade full of colors and joy!
Last Saturday there was a very special hustle and bustle in Dabel because the Dabel Carnival Club (KCD) celebrated its 70th anniversary. A large parade with dozens of participants and around ten festively decorated vehicles through the streets of the town put the residents in a celebratory mood. The procession began at 11 a.m. with the rousing song “Here we go, we can’t be stopped!”, and the atmosphere was, as the saying goes, thoroughly exuberant.
A special attraction was organized for the newly crowned prince couple Anja I and Sebastian I: They rode in a carriage pulled by four magnificent horses. The carnival attracted participants from nearby towns such as Banzkow, Sternberg, Goldberg, Sülstorf and Spornitz, all with cheerful shouts of “Ahoy!”, “Helau!” and “Hit in!” enliven the streets. Of course, dance performances by costumed fools couldn't be missed.
Celebrations and traditions
The celebrations were secured by the police and the volunteer fire department, which ensured a safe and orderly celebration. During the parade, “camels”, sweet treats, were distributed to the children - a tradition also known from other carnival regions in Germany, where small sweets are thrown into the crowd. For the adults there were hot drinks, bratwurst, pizza sticks and even schnapps, which were well received by the celebrants.
KCD chairman Torsten Edlich warmly thanked the supporters on the side of the road and made it clear how important the community and the helpers were for the success of the festival. A special highlight was the appearance of the miller's boy Dieter Krüger, who further heated up the atmosphere with his accordion.
Another reason to celebrate
A birthday child received very special congratulations from the KCD, and the royal couple enjoyed a warm drink that was served as part of the celebrations. The entire atmosphere was characterized by joy, cheers and the collection of sweets by the numerous children who really enjoyed the event to the fullest.
The foolish season is a special occasion here in Germany, and the multitude of variations such as “Carnival”, “Fastnacht” or “Fasching” shows how broad this tradition is. In Dabel, however, the focus is obviously on the KCD, whose 70-year history is now continued with a well-thought-out motto. Three evening events are planned for the 70th session from January 24th, 2026, which will continue on January 30th and 31st. A children's carnival will be held on February 1, 2026 at 2 p.m., and the motto will be "70 years more colorful than ever, the KCD full of imagination!" promises a colorful continuation of the celebrations.
During this time of festive activity, people always like to focus on the diverse traditions and customs that give each region its own charm. With its history and commitment, the KCD contributes to keeping this tradition alive and ensuring joy across generations. Because what would Carnival be without community, fun and the colorful costumes that light up the streets?
For everyone who wants to immerse themselves in the foolish times: The Dabel Carnival Club is a place where not only traditions are maintained, but also friendships are made. And the next time the call “Let’s get started!” sounds, we can hope for another unforgettable celebration.
