Packed with talent: The best readers from the Ludwigslust schools!
The big reading competition was held yesterday in the Ludwigslust city library. 16 talented young readers from the city's primary schools showed off their skills and read from their favorite books. This event was organized by the city library and caused a lot of excitement among the participants, their parents and grandparents. Deputy Mayor Ulrike Müller gave a warm welcome to the excited crowd of young writers, while library director Anke Ballhorn explained the rules of the competition.
Before the competition really started, the practiced texts were presented. The third grade students chose “Almuth and the Chicken Summer,” while the fourth grade performed the exciting story “Alarm on the Chicken Farm.” For the first grade, enchanting stories about dinosaurs, horses and olchis were on the agenda, while the second graders dealt with topics such as slime and dragons. It was a colorful mix of stories that provided great entertainment.
The best readers at a glance
The jury, which included Frank Cohnen and Renate Schubert, evaluated the reading achievements with great attention. Each child received a certificate for their great performance and a book prize donated by the Rotary Club. The winners in each class were:
- Klasse 1: Alexander Behnke
- Klasse 2: Charlie Neumann
- Klasse 3: Greta Ruckick
- Klasse 4: Hannah Ribinski
Hannah from the fourth grade, who took part in the competition for the fourth time, particularly stands out. Her talent was duly recognized and rewarded by the judges. Otis won second place and put everyone in a good mood with his lucky charm. Such events are not only a feast for bookworms, but also promote children's reading skills and self-confidence, which is also what the initiators of the competition intend.
Another highlight of reading promotion
The reading competition in Ludwigslust is part of a larger initiative that aims to strengthen children's love of reading. These practices take place all over Germany. The nationwide reading competition, which has been organized by the German Book Trade Association since 1959, also offers an excellent platform for sixth grade students to demonstrate their skills. Around 600,000 school children from over 7,000 schools take part every year. The focus is on promoting reading as a valuable commodity and teaching children important social and linguistic skills. When evaluating, not only reading fluency counts, but also the clarity of pronunciation and the expressiveness of the presentations.
The reading competition in Ludwigslust once again showed how important reading is for children and what joy it can be to experience stories together. The commitment of schools, libraries and local associations is the key to successful reading promotion and puts a radiant smile on the faces of young readers.
