A hiking couple from Hamm conquers the new paths in Amt Neuhaus!
In the picturesque community of Amt Neuhaus, a couple from Hamm, Westphalia, recently caused a stir. Ingrid and Johannes Goldbrunner explored the newly designed hiking trail system in an impressive performance over ten days. This premiere marks a special moment for the region and for the hiking-loving Goldbrunners, who dedicated themselves specifically to their hiking goals during their stay. As the Nordkurier reports, they checked off all ten signposted hiking trails and thus collected the first stamps in their hiking booklet.
The hiking trails in Amt Neuhaus stretch along the Elbe and offer the opportunity for both relaxed walks and sporty hiking fun. The Goldbrunner couple chose their routes cleverly, starting with shorter routes and quickly increasing to more than 13 kilometers per day. At each stage destination they were able to get a stamp in their hiking booklet, which added additional value to the success of their hikes. Their achievement was recognized with a unique gold badge that they were proud to take home.
Hiking trails in Amt Neuhaus
The hiking trails in Amt Neuhaus were ultimately developed with the needs of hikers in mind. As part of the ceremonial opening on May 5, 2024, hikers will be invited to test the approximately five kilometer long circular route through the rose garden. These paths lead through a variety of attractive landscapes, such as the pasture landscapes of the southern lowlands, which have been nominated for the title “Germany's Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2025”. The offer also includes routes between 2.3 and 13.5 kilometers and the possibility of combining the routes. Destinations and distances are shown on signs - every hiking lover will get their money's worth here.
During their hikes, the Goldbrunners took the opportunity to give valuable feedback to those responsible. One wish was to create more seating along the paths to allow hikers to take breaks. They also drew attention to vandalism, which is unfortunately always an issue in natural landscapes.
Nature and leisure in the region
The region around Amt Neuhaus is said to have just the right amount of untouchedness. The “Niedersächsische Elbtalaue” biosphere reserve offers a rich habitat for many plant and animal species and invites you to unforgettable nature experiences. Hiking can be a pleasure here at any time of the year, although the region is strongly influenced by nature.
Another exciting dimension that characterizes hiking in this area is the easy accessibility of the hiking trails via the “German Green Belt” long-distance hiking trail, which crosses the region with other hiking destinations. The German Hiking Institute has already shown in previous studies how sustainable hiking tourism can have positive economic effects in the region. This collection of visitor data not only helps to characterize hiking tourism, but also offers the opportunity to constantly improve and meet the needs of hikers.
With their own feeling of connection to nature and the fun of hiking, the Goldbrunner couple not only ensures a first, but also shows how important active recreation is in a rapidly changing world. The Goldbrunners have proven that hiking is not just a sporting activity, but also a source of joy in life and a sense of community.
