Turning accident near Malchow: fire truck collides with a car!

This morning, June 13, 2025, there was a traffic accident on federal highway 192 near Malchow in the Mecklenburg Lake District, which briefly affected morning traffic. At around 7:20 a.m., a personnel carrier from the Neustadt-Glewe volunteer fire department and a VW Tiguan collided head-on. The 28-year-old driver of the fire engine wanted to turn onto Autobahn 19 at the Malchow junction when he collided with the oncoming VW, which hit the right side of the personnel carrier. Luckily there were no injuries.

The two vehicles were no longer drivable after the accident, which resulted in extensive material damage of around 80,000 euros. In order to secure the scene of the accident and carry out the rescue work, the B192 was partially closed for around two hours. The driver of the fire truck was a German citizen and had no special privileges at the time of the accident. He was also not alone in the vehicle as he was accompanied by a passenger.

Consequences and traffic safety situation

Traffic accidents like the one in Malchow make it clear how important continuous monitoring and analysis of the traffic safety situation is. According to the Statistics of the Federal Statistical Office, comprehensive traffic accident statistics enable reliable and up-to-date data on accident development. These statistics are important for planning measures in legislation, traffic education and road construction to increase traffic safety.

Every year, accident events are recorded in detail in order to make the dependencies between accident-determining factors visible. Accidents involving personal injury and property damage are documented. A joint effort from all transport stakeholders is required to further reduce the number of accidents and increase safety on our roads.

In summary, it can be said that the incident at Malchow fortunately did not result in any personal injury, but it also makes it clear that awareness of road safety must always be present. Such accidents can not only cause significant material damage, but can also serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of road traffic. So stay alert and safe on the roads!
